The Truth About Being Addicted To Chocolate

Does the thought of chocolate make you swoon? Do you feel woozy with hunger just by catching a whiff of chocolate? You might just be addicted to chocolate. Don't think you are alone. When I was young and started working my first job, I would spend the majority of my earnings on the stuff. I ate so much in fact that even my skin started to suffer. At the time, there wasn't a true diagnosis for chocolate addiction; thankfully times have changed and it is recognized right along with an addiction to internet, television and other things.

In my practice I came across a client who termed herself a chocoholic. She was regularly hypoglycemic and admitted to getting high from eating chocolate. It's hard to image that the stuff can have that effect, but it's a proven fact that chocolate contains natural ingredients the effect serotonin levels. During our sessions, it came to light that she gorged on chocolate when faced witemotih situations that caused her stress. Like many people facing addiction, her eating mass amounts of chocolate was her body's response to anxiety. Granted it's much better than smoking or drinking, but it still holds long term negative side effects. As a child, her rewards and punishments were based on food. The more extreme end of that would be when her mother would weigh her before each meal to determine if she would be allowed to eat that day.

This abuse turned her to a cycle of adult binging and purging which destroyed her self esteem. Food had become the controlling factor in her life preventing her from looking at situations in a normal way. During our sessions, we worked though a lot of these issues to help discover and limit the effect of the emotional triggers that caused her to binge on chocolate.

I am sure you are wondering how this may relate to you. Chocolate addiction, like any other addiction is more than a simple habit in most cases. Some clients are able to apply hypnotherapy to assist in removing the habit, but in cases where the issue stems from emotional pressures additional help is needed.

Another one of my clients admitting to being addicted to sugar; specifically chocolate, and he heard that I might be able to help him via hypnotherapy. After speaking with him at length I discovered a deep dissatisfaction in his home life. He and his partner though living together had not been intimate over the last five years. I told him that he most likely has an addiction to chocolate rather than simply a sugar habit. After receiving that bit of information he wanted to stop attending our sessions. Instead of dealing with the issue he requested that we not focus on that. I informed him that we could work on other parts of his life, however without working on the main issue, his habit would remain.

At the time he wasn't ready to deal with the real issues which I had to respect as a professional. My role is to suggest treatments that may help a person with their stress, but not to force a person into dealing with an issue before they are mentally ready. He wanted to work only on getting rid of his chocolate eating habit and nothing else. It's entirely possible that he has gotten rid of that habit, but more likely than not it has been replaced by another one.

If you are addicted to chocolate and the root cause is some form of emotional stress, only working to get rid of the habit won't prevent you from replacing it with another habit. The human mind is a pro at creating loopholes. This is the same reason many people who stop smoking or drinking turn to other habits such as eating. This all leads to weight gain in the end. If you want to lose weight, feel better, or just increase your self esteem treating the cause is the only way to cure the symptom.

Infrared Saunas: All You Need To Know

Surely many of us would have attended several sauna sessions to relieve tension and relax muscles. It is very likely that people think that there is only one kind of sauna, which is not correct anymore. Over the years the tradition of sauna baths was evolved to develop several sauna techniques that we know today and a clear example is the infrared saunas.

Principles of Infrared Saunas

In the cabin, the stove is replaced by infrared heaters installed at strategic locations. They act by radiation, like the Sun, but without the emissions of ultraviolet radiations. While traditional sauna heats the air, in infrared sauna 80% of the thermal radiation penetrates deep into the tissue of the skin. An infrared cabin broadcasts heat evenly. By nature, a traditional sauna is characterized by large temperature differences from the floor to the ceiling. The benefits of infrared sauna: Body infrared therapy is being used by physiotherapists worldwide because the healing ability of infrared rays is well known on our body. The mechanism of action of infrared rays is called "resonant absorption". This means that the rays are absorbed by tissues selectively causing their mild improvement. Once this is achieved, further radiations are not absorbed and therefore no prejudice occurs on the system.

Here are a few specific benefits of Infrared Saunas:

Infrared heat causes 3-6 times greater sweat than traditional sauna. Due to the strong perspiration, skin breathes better and blood circulation is improved. Tense muscles get rid of their toxins and soften. Infrared saunas are known to burn fat. With an ambient temperature of around 40 ° C, it is beneficial for cardiovascular system and is more bearable to people sensitive to hot weather.

Proponents of infrared also rely on medical research to highlight its effectiveness against skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis, hives etc. From the economic point of view, infrared cabins sell 10 to 15% cheaper than the classic versions. From the consumption side, the difference is more evident with electric power capped at 3 kW for cabins for family use.

Medical researchers and practitioners from all backgrounds; German, Chinese, Finnish and Japanese have been studying the therapeutic effects of infrared heat. Whether it is the treatment of pain, joint diseases or inflammatory rheumatic, the results are clearly in favor of the infrared.

Installation of Infrared Saunas

The installation of infrared saunas is simple and requires no special electrical installation. The minimum area required is one square meter and an outlet of 220 V. The power consumption of this accessory is very low and it takes between 5 and 10 minutes to heat the place to the desired temperature. The sale of infrared saunas is today an unprecedented phenomenon for a simple reason, the health benefits. Infrared saunas are great ways to burn calories and control weight. In cases of obesity and cellulite, infrared heat is a powerful ally for disposal of fat. The use of infrared saunas increases the heart rate and cardiac output, increases metabolism, reduces diastolic pressure and the body achieves better cardiovascular fitness. The sale of infrared saunas has grown around the world when it revealed its therapeutic effects. The infrared sauna is taken as "the future of sauna" today and its applications are developing dramatically. Healing effects are achieved with traditional sauna also, but not of the order of an infrared sauna.

Health Benefits from Hot Tub

Hot tubs are used for both pleasures as well as hydrotherapy purposes. They have shown positive results in the treatment for various chronic diseases like body aches, diabetes, etc. As a result, this is gradually becoming a popular means of therapy. Hot tubs are generally kept outdoors and the principles of sanitation used in swimming pools are used here also.

Stress relief

Most people these days suffer from a lot of stress and anxiety. Various factors including office pressure, academics, family life, etc. are the major reasons for the rampant stress and stress related disorders afflicting modern society. Insomnia is a direct effect of stress. Hot tubs can be effective in relieving stress and tension. The massaging jets are so relaxing that one can fall asleep quite soon. Reports suggest that relaxing in hot tubs for 15 minutes every night can improve sleep.

Muscle relaxation

Hydrotherapy can be useful for treating stressed muscles and nerves. In fact, the hot tub jets massage the body and relieve it from pressure. Because of the property of buoyancy, a relaxing time spent in a hot tub can make one feel much lighter and as a result, the joints are relieved of pain. Arthritis has a potential cure in hydrotherapy because of the reduction in muscle stiffness.

Blood circulation

Bathing in hot tubs can have enormous benefits in improving blood circulation. The high temperature in these tubs is important in opening the blood vessels. This process of vasodilation helps to decrease the blood pressure. Because of the dilated blood vessels, there is an ease of blood flow. This helps to stimulate the nerves of the circulatory system. This acts as a boost to the immune system of the body. However, patients suffering from blood pressure need to consult their doctors before taking to hydrotherapy. Also, alcohol needs to be avoided while switching from hot to cold water.

Help in Diabetes

Recent research has shown bathing in hot tubs can be very useful for patients suffering from type 2 diabetes. Soaking in the hot water for almost 30 minutes a day can be effective in losing weight, reducing blood sugar, and improving sleep cycle in people. For those who are unable to exercise regularly, hot water therapy seems to be a viable alternative. However, diabetic patients need to be cautious while undergoing therapy. As the drop in blood sugar is not clearly visible once inside the water, they must be careful while coming out of the tub. Also, the temperature needs to be controlled so that they do not get burns due to damaged nerves.

Hot tubs have a lot of health benefits. It is because of these benefits that many people are switching to this therapy for alleviating body pains and discomfort.

What Causes Autoimmune Disease?

It's amazing just how many different types of autoimmune diseases there are in the medical books. The conventional medical community claims they are unaware of the cause of the body suddenly turning on itself. Doctors who take a more natural approach believe otherwise.

Here are the type 5 causes of autoimmune disease.

1. Poor Diet

Poor diet is one of the leading causes of all disease, including autoimmune disease. The Standard American Diet is also responsible for the rising obesity rate, the epidemic of cancer, and the startling array of mental and emotional disorders millions of people suffer from.

Fast food, processed food, microwavable meals, soda, candy, etc. offer little-to-no nutritional value and are chock full of chemicals, preservatives, additives, and synthetic sweeteners your body doesn't recognize. As long as you continue to ingest these foods, your immune system works overtime to fight them off and protect you.

An overworked immune system eventually exhausts itself and begins to malfunction. This is when autoimmune disease such as crohn's disease, psoriasis, and diabetes begin to take shape in your body.

If you want to stave off autoimmune disease, a whole-food diet is best. Eat as many organic vegetables, fruits, beans, legumes, meat, fish, and dairy as possible. Become a label-reader and avoid eating foods if you can't pronounce their ingredients.

2. Sedentary Lifestyle

Lack of exercise is another common contributor to the development of many autoimmune disorders. A sedentary lifestyle causes poor circulation, contributes to inflammation, and weakens the immune system. Diabetes, arthritis, and thyroid disease are most commonly associated with lack of exercise.

You don't have to be a bodybuilder to get the exercise your body needs to stay healthy. Just 30 minutes three times per week of cardio and strength training is enough to start with.

3. Food/Environmental Allergies

We live in a toxic world. Think for a minute about all of the chemical products you're exposed to each day. Shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, make-up, laundry detergent, carpet cleaner, air fresheners, cleaning products, etc. all contain a host of allergens and neurotoxins that are virtually guaranteed to shorten your lifespan and contribute to autoimmune disease.

Food allergies are another serious problem. Aside from the fact that much of our food is now genetically modified, gluten intolerance affects nearly 1 in every 100 people. Gluten intolerance is characterized by the inability to digest the protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Continued ingestion of this protein causes chronic abdominal pain, diarrhea, brain fog, muscle aches, thyroid imbalance, and diabetes.

The easiest way to avoid autoimmune disorders caused by food and environmental allergies is to eliminate as many of the toxins from your life as possible. This means switching to organic cleaning products, make-up, and toiletries, and testing yourself for gluten intolerance. Eliminate all sources of gluten from your diet for a period of one month. Reintroduce these foods on the 31st day en masse to test for a reaction. If you're unable to digest this protein, you'll know.

4. Stress

Stress is a killer. It is the number one reason people visit the doctor for everything from a headache to a heart attack. Our bodies are designed to produce chemicals to protect us in life and death situations.

However, when stress is chronic and unrelieved, the glands responsible for producing these chemicals became overtaxed and begin to malfunction. Adrenal fatigue is a real and serious condition that affects millions of people and can lead to the development of autoimmune disease.

Even if you're the burn-the-candle-at-both ends type, you owe it to your health to find time to relax. Even just twenty minutes of sitting quietly in a darkened room and doing deep breathing exercises is enough to slow your heart rate, boost your immune system, and prevent the development of serious illness.

5. Lack of Sleep

Sleep is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Unfortunately, most people do not get the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night. A lot of us are up tossing and turning from emotional stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise. Chronic sleep deprivation causes a boost in the fight-or-flight hormone cortisol, which can lead to obesity, mood swings, neurological distress, and autoimmune disease.

If insomnia is a problem for you, try adding some chelated magnesium to your daily supplement regimen. Magnesium is responsible for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body and millions of people are deficient in it. You can also improve your quality of sleep by darkening your room, using earplugs to block out noise, and kicking your pets out of bed.

You don't have to be among the millions of people struggling everyday with chronic pain, anxiety, and digestive problems. Just a few small steps in a more healthful direction can truly work miracles. Get started today.

Balance Your Hormones Before They Go Astray!

Women and hormonal changes are inseparable. You go through all the highs and lows every month according to changes in your hormones. When the equilibrium between the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone is disturbed, it is capable of inducing such extremes of emotions like bliss, aggression, helplessness or even complete despair. Some women are even prone to suicidal ideation when hormonal changes are combined with other life events.

Most hormonal changes occur during the 2nd half of the menstrual cycle, also termed as PMS (premenstrual syndrome), menopause and also during and after pregnancy. Hormonal changes affect women physically too. The physical changes are manifested in the form of weight changes, energy levels, hair loss, skin changes, alterations in libido and others.

There are other factors too which cause hormonal imbalance such as inadequate or improper nutrition, stress, extreme exercises, obesity or PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease).

How to tackle hormonal imbalances:
  • Consuming more of whole grain products rather than refined helps maintain optimum insulin levels. This in turn regulates hormonal levels. Foods that cause a strain on the adrenal glands should be avoided. Excess activity of the adrenal glands causes stress due to release of the hormone adrenaline. Foods like refined carbohydrates, excess of sugary treats, artificial sweeteners and trans-fats are examples of such foods. As a woman ages, she should avoid having wheat and dairy products as the body does not easily process these foods, causing adrenal stress. Caffeinated drinks should be consumed in moderation as they cause stress hormones like cortisol to rise.
  • Consume more of cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, kale and Brussels sprouts. Phytoestrogen-containing compounds like soy products and Mexican yam are good hormone balancers.
  • Products containing essential fatty acids like the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are good hormone stabilizers. Linseed oil, evening primrose oil and cod liver oil are good sources. These are very good in normalizing hormonal irregularities.
  • Evening primrose oil contains gamma linolenic acid (omega-6-fatty acid) which is necessary by the body to produce prostaglandins, the hormone-like substances that help regulate body functions.
  • Cod liver oil contains vitamins and omega-3-fatty acids which keep a check on the activity of omega-6-fatty acids, so as to avoid overproduction of hormones. A healthy ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids is important for optimal hormonal balance. Apart from restoring hormonal balance, these oils help maintain a healthy metabolism and good skin.
  • Alcohol consumption should be kept to a minimum as it causes major disruptions in the female hormonal cycles. More of organic foods should be consumed. Certain pesticides can mimic the action of estrogen, leading to weight gain and even cancer. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is commonly added in Chinese food for flavoring, should be completely eliminated from food as it is a potential carcinogen. It is capable of disturbing the hormonal balance.
  • Diseases like PCOD should be given timely medical treatment and should not be ignored. PCOD can also lead to high blood pressure, infertility and breast cancer. Hormonal disorders are highly capable of causing impotency. Diabetes, PCOD, Thyroid problems are also linked to hormone problems and are capable of inducing impotency in women.
  • Cutting down on excess fat helps a lot in regulating the hormones. Excess weight causes hormonal imbalance which can cause problems in embryo implantation and development among women with PCOD.
  • Drink clean water regularly to flush out the excess hormones. Excess of hormones can disrupt the body functions. Keep your digestive system intact and smooth-functioning. An ill digestive system also wrecks your hormonal balance. Foods like gluten, dairy products and soy products are highly likely to causes digestive discomfort and allergies. So, see to it that they suit your system.
  • Eat a balanced meal consisting of adequate carbs, proteins and fats. Eliminating either of these macronutrients can cause hormone disturbances. However, choose healthy fats like avocados, nuts and olives.
Bio: Roger Jennings is a Female Health Expert and believes that Evening Primrose Oil and cod liver oil are the best for maintaining Hormonal balance, given the health-giving nutrient dense composition they have. Also he feels that it is very important that Women take care of themselves along with their family.

Stress during pregnancy is good for the child?

Moderate stress experienced by the future mother during pregnancy does not cause harm to the child, and even contributes to its rapid development in the first years of life, U.S. scientists believe.

In a study conducted by researchers from the University of Hopkins involved 137 women have not experienced any specific problems in pregnancy. psychological state of participants was monitored during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Health surveillance and the level of development of the children went on for two years after their birth.

The objective of the study was to identify a possible link between stress experienced by the mother during the last period of pregnancy and developmental defects, growth retardation, and behavioral problems in their children. However, contrary to expectations, the data obtained by scientists talking about just the opposite trend : the children born to women who often is experiencing stress during pregnancy, developed faster and were generally healthier than children of women whose pregnancies proceeded in a relatively peaceful environment.

Scientists are now offering two versions of the possible explanations of the observed phenomenon . According to the first version, the link between stress, which is experiencing the mother during pregnancy, and more successful development of the child after birth may be due to beneficial effects on the developing fetus hormone cortisol released by the mother's body during times of stress . "Cortisol is a stress hormone, has a bad reputation, but all the organs of the human body needs it to develop in the right direction, - says the coordinator of the research project, Professor Janet Dipierto - Maybe this hormone can stimulate the development of the internal organs of the child before birth."

On the other hand , the observed pattern can be explained by scientists personal characteristics and lifestyle of women who participated in the study. The majority of women complaining of stress, led an active life, do not suffer depression and have never asked for help from psychiatrists. It is possible that these women are also increasingly concerned to raise children and care for them, and this is due to their more rapid development, suggests Professor Dipierto.

Scientists were surprised surprising results of his research. According to Janet Dipierto, expectant mothers can finally breathe a sigh of relief and get rid of the additional fears about once endured stressful situations. "Avoid the stress should not because it is bad for the child, but because it is harmful to yourself," - she said.

Botox helps with urinary incontinence

U.S. scientists have proposed the use of Botox for the treatment of urinary incontinence.

What is urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence is one of the major urological diseases in women, which significantly affects the quality of life. The following types of urinary incontinence:
  • Stress incontinence occurs when coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercise, and due to the weakening of the sphincter of the bladder. Sphincter is a circular muscle that prevents the leakage of urine. The weakening of the sphincter in women can be caused by pregnancy, childbirth and menopause, and men - removal of the prostate.
  • Urge incontinence manifests sudden urge to urinate followed by an involuntary release of urine. Urge incontinence can be caused by a urinary tract infection, Parkinson's disease , Alzheimer's disease, trauma, multiple sclerosis .
  • Overflow incontinence due to bladder manifested inability to empty the bladder. This type of incontinence can be caused by an obstacle in the way of the ureter urine flow, nerve damage from diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, in men it is often found in diseases of the prostate.
The essence of the study
The study involved 250 women with urge incontinence of urine. Only one injection of Botox into the bladder led to an understanding that it is not inferior to oral drugs that are currently used for the treatment of urinary incontinence. In contrast, a single injection of Botox freed women from urinary incontinence at 6 months, whereas oral medications must be taken daily.

But we should not forget about the side effects of Botox: some women experience urinary retention, which required a catheter and urinary tract infection. However, Botox can be a great alternative to oral medication.

If your mind is telling you to clean up your basement, listen to your favorite music, or stop thinking bad thoughts about yourself, take those thoughts seriously.

Take very good care of yourself. As you were growing up you may not have learned how to take good care of yourself. In fact, much of your attention may have been on taking care of others, on just getting by, or on "behaving well." Begin today to take good care of yourself. Treat yourself as a wonderful parent would treat a small child or as one very best friend might treat another. If you work at taking good care of yourself, you will find that you feel better about yourself. Here are some ways to take good care of yourself

Eat healthy foods and avoid junk foods (foods containing a lot of sugar, salt, or fat). A healthy daily diet is usually:
1. Five or six servings of vegetables and fruit
2. Six servings of whole grain foods like bread, pasta, cereal, and rice
3. Two servings of protein foods like beef, chicken, fish, cheese, cottage cheese, or yogurt
  • Exercise. Moving your body helps you to feel better and improves your self-esteem. Arrange a time every day or as often as possible when you can get some exercise, preferably outdoors. You can do many different things. Taking a walk is the most common. You could run, ride a bicycle, play a sport, climb up and down stairs several times, put on a tape, or play the radio and dance to the music-anything that feels good to you. If you have a health problem that may restrict your ability to exercise, check with your doctor before beginning or changing your exercise habits.
  1. Do personal hygiene tasks that make you feel better about yourself-things like taking a regular shower or bath, washing and styling your hair, trimming your nails, brushing and flossing your teeth.
  2. Have a physical examination every year to make sure you are in good health.
  3. Plan fun activities for yourself. Learn new things every day.
  • Take time to do things you enjoy. You may be so busy, or feel so badly about yourself, that you spend little or no time doing things you enjoy-things like playing a musical instrument, doing a craft project, flying a kite, or going fishing. Make a list of things you enjoy doing. Then do something from that list every day. Add to the list anything new that you discover you enjoy doing.
  • Get something done that you have been putting off. Clean out that drawer. Wash that window. Write that letter. Pay that bill.
  • Do things that make use of your own special talents and abilities. For instance, if you are good with your hands, then make things for yourself, family, and friends. If you like animals, consider having a pet or at least playing with friends' pets.
  • Dress in clothes that make you feel good about yourself. If you have little money to spend on new clothes, check out thrift stores in your area.
  • Give yourself rewards you are a great person. Listen to a CD or tape.
  • Spend time with people who make you feel good about yoursel people who treat you well. Avoid people who treat you badly.
  • Make your living space a place that honors the person you are. Whether you live in a single room, a small apartment, or a large home, make that space comfortable and attractive for you. If you share your living space with others, have some space that is just for you-a place where you can keep your things and know that they will not be disturbed and that you can decorate any way you choose.
  • Display items that you find attractive or that remind you of your achievements or of special times or people in your life. If cost is a factor, use your creativity to think of inexpensive or free ways that you can add to the comfort and enjoyment of your space.
  • Make your meals a special time. Turn off the television, radio, and stereo. Set the table, even if you are eating alone. Light a candle or put some flowers or an attractive object in the center of the table. Arrange your food in an attractive way on your plate. If you eat with others, encourage discussion of pleasant topics. Avoid discussing difficult issues at meals.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to learn something new or improve your skills. Take a class or go to a seminar. Many adult education programs are free or very inexpensive. For those that are more costly, ask about a possible scholarship or fee reduction.
  • Begin doing those things that you know will make you feel better about yourself like going on a diet, beginning an exercise program or keeping your living space clean.
  • Do something nice for another person. Smile at someone who looks sad. Say a few kind words to the check-out cashier. Help your spouse with an unpleasant chore. Take a meal to a friend who is sick. Send a card to an acquaintance. Volunteer for a worthy organization.
  • Make it a point to treat yourself well every day. Before you go to bed each night, write about how you treated yourself well during the day.
You may be doing some of these things now. There will be others you need to work on. You will find that you will continue to learn new and better ways to take care of yourself. As you incorporate these changes into your life, your self esteem will continue to improve. You should now have some new sobriey tools in your arsenal.

4 Negative Emotions that Trigger Binge Eating and How You Can Avoid Them

Being smart about your weight doesn't just involve counting your calories and measuring your body mass index. It also involves taking a hold of your emotional state and being disciplined when it comes to handling your food cravings. A lot of us soon realize that emotional episodes are the reason behind binging and over eating.

The best way to triumph over the weight loss battle is to understand what triggers the overeating and take control of it. Making sure that you take on a practical approach with regard to coping styles you use can ensure your lifelong success in conquering weight problems.

Experts agree that some eating triggers can be attributed to human genetics, though most eating cravings are directly associated with emotions. Here are a few identified emotional triggers and some advice on how to manage them.

Suppressed anger is one of the biggest factors that drive a person to seek out the comforts of food. Most often than not angry people end up managing their anger by succumbing to food cravings. Food does seem like a reliable source of solace, but the problem is that it leaves you in more trouble than before. The best way to manage anger is to understand what is causing it and face it. Once you have conquered your anger issues it will become easier to avoid giving into cravings and overeating.

Stress is probably the most common trigger that is associated with overeating. You want to ask yourself if your response to stressful situations is grabbing for the first sugary treat you can find or do you often find yourself eating a bag of your favourite chips whenever its time to do your taxes? You may not be able to avoid these stressors in your life but you can surely lower the anxiety level that leads to binge eating. Get enough rest and treat your body life a temple. You can be prone to anxiety when you aren't getting enough sleep and relaxation.

Is boredom an appetite inducer? It has happened to everyone. You are home on a Friday night, there is nothing good on TV and you don't have anything planned so you decide that raiding the refrigerator is better than washing the dishes or cleaning your room. Before you make the decision to reach for the freezer and pop open that pint of ice cream, do yourself a favor and compel yourself to shift your focus from food to something more meaningful.

Everyone goes through some level of depression at one point or another. Depression prevents people from doing activities which are part of a normal routine and sometimes can lead to doing things which aren't conventional for a person, such as binge eating. You can empower yourself to use your depression as a wakeup call and avoid giving in to the temptation of drowning your mood in food.

Engaging in physical activities is an effective way of battling bouts of depression. Exercise and physical activity are clinically proven to increase the level of endorphins in the body. Endorphins are chemicals in the brain that stimulate a sense of well-being. Regular exercise is the key to help your body take control and win the binge eating battle.

Are Athletes Really Healthy

BY: Kimberly Coventry Olson
http://FitKim.com

While training for my first marathon, I was obsessed with Runner's World magazine. I loved reading all of the inspirational stories about superior athletes and those that overcame amazing odds. But periodically a story would pop up about an unexpected death of a seemingly very healthy athlete. Eventually I noticed a pattern and became intrigued. How could these amazing athletes, who ran upwards of 50-100 miles each week, suddenly die? Weren't all of those miles and races completed guarantee to ensuring a long and healthy life?

After doing some research, I discovered why these sad tragedies occurred. Although exercise has tremendous health benefits, anything beyond moderate physical activity puts a great deal of stress on the body. If this compacted stress isn't countered with a healthy diet, the body gradually becomes taxed. Although there aren't necessarily any outward symptoms, much can be happening deep within the body.

So as an active person, what can you do to prevent negative effects of intense exercise? Bring your body into balance by eating a very clean diet. This includes eating mostly vegetables, fruits, whole grains and a moderate amount of protein and fats. Fruits and vegetables provide countless benefits for the body, as well as help to restore lost vitamins and minerals. Also, athletes greatly benefit from the complex carbohydrates gained from eating whole grains. Proteins such as fish and lean meats and fats such as avocado and olive oil are important, but should be a side to the main meal. Drinking plenty of water is also essential, along with hydrating after a workout. I love drinking coconut water because of all the natural electrolytes!

In addition, I think it's a fantastic idea for active people to incorporate mind-body techniques to recharge their batteries and rejuvenate their souls. Examples of this includes Yoga, meditation, reading, walking in nature, spending time with loved ones, getting a massage, journaling, praying and many more. Basically anything that supports your well-being and helps you mentally is a great idea. We put our bodies through so much, it's the least we can do!

Although being highly active is often seen as an esteemed attribute of any individual, a healthy diet must equally be valued. By choosing to fuel your body with the proper nutrition that your active lifestyle demands, you will be well on your way to a long and healthy life.

Stress Related Back Pain is a Relatively Modern Diagnosis

Stress-related back pain is a relatively modern diagnosis although the concept of muscular pain caused by tension is not a new one. Stress of both the physical and psychological sort can make the painful symptoms of any injury worse but 'stress-related back pain' is a term used for pain caused by stress above all other factors.

For many the idea of thoughts and feelings causing a physical problem seems unlikely, but this is well established in medicine. Stress causes many changes in the body and predisposes to conditions such as gastritis, high blood pressure and heart disease. In addition, it causes a build up of tension throughout the body.

Stress-related back pain is thought to relate to this tension. You may have read that back pain can be caused by muscle spasm in the back. This spasm is worsened by tension in the muscles and is a target for interventions such as stretches to the back and physiotherapy.

Stress could trigger pain in the back by creating tension and spasm in the back muscles but then can also be a part of a vicious cycle of worsening back pain. Individuals suffering from daily stress are more likely to avoid gentle exercise and relaxation. As the back pain manifests itself, some people will choose to withdraw from exercise altogether or work longer and harder as the pain limits productivity.

The key to beating back pain is identifying the vicious cycle and taking action to break it. Key to this is reducing stress levels but also increasing light activity, stretching and other exercises. For many people, stress starts at work. When trying to make a change at work thinking beyond just the workload and the obvious psychological stress, ensure you also consider the physical stress your job. If you work at a desk - ensure you're on a good ergonomic chair, perhaps you need a footrest, perhaps your computer screen is too high or too small?

Almost all pain is made worse by stress and back pain in particular can respond to a concerted effort to beat this vicious cycle. Make lots of small changes to your work and lifestyle and you'll be on your way to beating back pain.
