Choosing a Pair of Killer Sunglasses

It is easier to select a pair of sunglasses you love if you give a thought to the possible choices before visiting a shop. The three things that you should consider are comfort, protection, and style.

Sunglass lens tints

The first thing that you look for as soon as you come across a nice pair of glasses Oakville is probably the color of the lens. Colors are usually applied to the lenses of sunglasses so that they absorb light as it flows through them. The color chosen by you is a matter of your personal taste. You need to consider some important benefits related to color:
  • Gray colored-lens lowers the brightness, but will not distort the color.
  • Amber and brown tints bring down glare that is created by the sunlight's blue frequency which makes things appear hazy. These tints distort colors more than the gray tints.
  • Yellow colored-tints bring down the haze coming from blue light better than brown colored-lenses. The view is really sharpened, but there is more distortion of color.
  • Lenses that are tinted green help in filtering out some amount of blue light and reduce the glare. These lenses provide better contrast between the objects.
  • Lenses of rose color can be a good option if you are involved in water sports or different outdoor activities, as they provide nice contrast on objects seen against the background of green or blue colors.
Sunglasses with polarized lenses

If the lens has a polarized film, it brings down the glare that occurs when the light bounces off on objects like highways, water, and similar surfaces.

Sunglasses with scratch-resistant lenses

These glasses come with a thin layer of coating that is applied to lenses to make them resistant to scratches. Remember that plastic lenses tend to scratch more easily than hard glass lenses.

Sunglasses with photo-chromatic lenses

Photo-chromic (or photo-chromatic) lenses turn darker when exposed to UV radiation. The shift quickly happens as your surroundings turn from bright to dim. These are preferred by people who want their glasses to be used as regular ones and as sunglasses.

Choose sunglasses that suit your style

You find different styles in sunglasses every year. The selections these days are so different from each other that not a single pair will ever go out of fashion. You don't have to spend a lot on these glasses to maintain a good collection, as you find effective ones based on your budget.

Specialty and designer sunglasses such as the ones for sports are priced higher than most sunglasses today, but it is easy to find all types of fashion glasses at affordable rates. Make sure you carefully watch the UV ratings. Unless you know already which frame suits you the best, go shopping for glasses Oakville and try on as many frames as possible.

Are Your Shoes Healthy?

Most people don't think about shoes when they think about being healthy. You might think about getting proper sleep, eating a healthy and nutritional diet, having regular exercise, and managing stress, but you probably aren't going to think about wearing the proper shoes. However, wearing comfortable shoes that offer your feet all of the support that they need can greatly contribute to your health.

Many people women especially will go to extremes to look good. They wear unusually high heels that are not good for their bodies. Studies have shown that wearing these types of shoes may give you back injuries later in life. Men, however, are also guilty of wearing shoes that do not offer the proper support that their feet need. Both men and women frequently wear shoes that are uncomfortable for whatever reason.

There are many health benefits associated with wearing comfortable shoes. With the proper support in tools like orthopedically designed airbeds, your feet will get the support that they need, and you can avoid ankle, leg, or back injuries. Also, if your shoes are more comfortable, you will be more likely to walk on a regular basis. You would probably go out of your way to avoid walking if your shoes were pinching your feet and giving you blisters all of the time, right? Wearing uncomfortable shoes can also increase your stress levels, and we all know how negative stress can be on several aspects of a person's health.

Many people think of comfortable shoes as being ugly shoes. This may have been true in the past, but there are starting to be more and more options when it comes to comfortable shoes. For example, Born shoes offers many different styles and models from dress shoes to sandals to boots for both men and women. Also, Clarks shoes offer a wide variety of comfort shoes, and they even offer some pairs of heels. With brands like Born and Clarks, being comfortable does not mean that you have to also be unfashionable.

The important thing is that the human body works best when you are taking care of the entire thing, and many people neglect the feet. One of the best ways to have healthy feet is to wear comfortable shoes that offer you proper support. For more suggestions on comfortable shoes, you can ask your orthopedic doctor and see which shoes he or she would recommend.

Andaz San Diego: Art and Fashion Collide

The Art and Fashion Collide event took place on Thursday October 18, 2012 at the Andaz San Diego.  A display of contemporary abstract art from artist Heidi Thompson was presented by art dealer Alexander Salazar in the Andaz’ Ivy Wine Bar . Following the art show,  guests were invited down to the Ivy Nightclub where a runway show took place.  The fashion portion of the evening showcased designs from local menswear designer Maceoo.

This was my first experience with a fashion show featuring menswear.  I must say that what I most enjoyed was the use of Maceoo menswear as stylish pieces for the ladies!  Once you see the women in the video you will know exactly what I mean.  The stylists cleverly fashioned a Maceoo shirt into a dress.  Perhaps I should purchase a Maceoo shirt for my husband!  He will never get to wear it once I figure out how to use it as a dress! Take a moment to enjoy our video coverage from the evening.  Video created by Gerald Labrador Video for LifebyCynthia.com.  Enjoy!

After the fashion show I had a chance to chat with San Diego Style Bloggers Paulina & Rachel. Mehdi Raad, designer of Maceoo, took a moment to tell us a little more about his brand. Fashion Week San Diego 2012

Fashion Week San Diego 2012 has come and gone. There is still quite a bit of  buzz surrounding the event.  The runway show, trunk show, and winner announcement was a great way to conclude FWSD.  I am thankful to have been invited to participate as a VIP Press invitee.  I am excited for next year!

A MUST see: Please check out the runway show photos by Gerald Labrador Videography:

This year's winner is Kenneth Barlis! Runner ups are Jessica Faulkner and Dos Caras Swimwear. Kenneth's portion of the runway show was one of my favorites! But I have to admit the the ENTIRE production was a wonderful experience!

Kenneth Barlis
Performance by DJ Violinist Spags was phenomenal!

I think a big round of applause is in order for all of the "behind the scenes" folks!  The designers and their talents are the face of FWDS and we all applaud them, but everyone involved should be counted as the heart and soul of FWSD!  So, I give thanks to the hair & makeup artists, the models, the set up crew, the event volunteers (especially the sweetheart that seated me in the VIP section, & the gal who tried to help me locate my swag bag that was never to be found...), the dressers, the bloggers covering the event, the photographers, sponsors, and to you my friends who read my blog!

Fashion Week San Diego 2012 Press Conference

The countdown to Fashion Week San Diego is now just days away.  The event will showcase local designers and is presented by APA Business Consulting, Inc along with a host of sponsors.

On September 10, 2012 a press conference was held at Roppongi Restaurant in La Jolla, CA. It was an exclusive event for members of the press, many of whom are fashion & lifestyle bloggers, to preview the artists' creations.  The intimate setting afforded the opportunity to see each piece up close.

Gerald Labrador Videography, who specializes in wedding & event coverage, did a wonderful job at capturing the night.

After chatting with Allison Andrews, Director of Fashion Week San Diego, it is apparent how truly passionate she is about this project.

Fashion Week San Diego Press Conference at Roppongi: OOTD

What do you wear to press conference highlighting Fashion Week?  Personally I wasn't sure what to wear. It was sweltering in San Diego that evening so I had a last minute change of wardrobe.  I didn't take an OOTD photo but was able to find a candid shot showing what I wore.  I had a great time and in the end it didn't matter how I was dressed!

Stay tuned for my post on what fashions were featured at the preview event!  I'm very excited to share photos (as well as a video) of the sneak peek that members of the press were treated to!  It was an amazing showcase of the designer's creations!

The Best Movie Jewellery of All Time

Film award ceremonies and premieres of late have inspired many jewellery designers to try their hand at replicating some of the most beautiful jewellery seen in the world's most famous films. From the elegant pieces of the classic black and white movies to the show-stopping sparkle of pieces in modern-day films, there is no doubt that some incredibly stunning jewellery items have graced cinema screens over the years. Provided below is a summary of five films featuring necklaces, rings and earrings that will stop you in your tracks.

Heart of the Ocean
One of the most famous necklaces in the film industry has to be the Heart of the Ocean, otherwise known as the glittering jewel necklace that formed a central part of the film, Titanic. Although there was initially some confusion about what the setting was, with many mistaking it for a blue diamond, the wardrobe department from the film later revealed that it was a blue cubic zirconium. The jeweller who created the necklace was asked to design another version of the same necklace. This new version featured diamonds worth several million pounds and a stunning 170-carat Sapphire jewel. The necklace was worn at the 1998 Academy Awards by the singer Celine Dion, whose song, My Heart Will Go On, was featured in the film.

Rubies of Pretty Woman
One of the best scenes in the film Pretty Woman is, without a shadow of a doubt, the one in which Edward gives Vivian a box and snaps it shut whilst Vivian bursts out laughing. The Diamond and Ruby necklace inside went beautifully with her now iconic white gloves and red gown. The piece is thought to be worth more than £200,000 and was created by one of the most famous jewellery shops in France, Fred Joaillier. The necklace was made from 18k white gold and was then encrusted with diamonds and rubies.

Monroe's Diamonds
The jewels worn by iconic beauty Marilyn Monroe whilst acting in the film, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, are still adored by all who watch this film today. Her collection of jewellery during the film was so large that it's almost impossible to choose just one piece; in one scene, where Marilyn wore the stunning hot pink dress, she was draped in diamond bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces.

Carrie and the Black Diamond
Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City 2 wore an eye-catching 5-carat black diamond ring. Big, the love of Bradshaw's life, gives her the ring because he considers her to be unique, just like the diamond. Black diamonds became hugely popular after the film aired, much like the 'Carrie' letter necklace shot to fame during the television series.

Yellow Isadora Diamonds
Last, but certainly not least, is the Isadora necklace with an 84-carat yellow diamond, worn by Kate Hudson in the film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The real necklace is reportedly worth £3 million; however, even the replica used in the film was worth £8,000!

Urban Decay Turn To Animal Testing

Since its launch in 1998, Urban Beauty has been a brand that is 100 per cent ethical. This means the company uses vegetarian or vegan ingredients wherever possible and is opposed to animal testing.

The Urban Beauty brand famously refused to make fashion show appearances due to real fur being worn on the catwalk; indeed, Urban Beauty's animal testing policy states that it "will not allow third parties to test on animals on their behalf, except when it is required by law".

Each product on the company's website is clearly marked as being animal-friendly, with the packaging plainly displaying the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics' (CCIC) Leaping Bunny logo: the guarantee of a cruelty-free product.

Breaking into China
However, the company has recently decided to try to break into the cosmetics market in China, a country in which animal testing on cosmetic products is required by law. Within Europe, there are a number of laws that prohibit certain types of animal testing, giving animals more protection than in some other parts of the world, such as China.

Chinese law states that, before cosmetic products are licensed to go on sale to the public or to beauty suppliers for salons, they must be tested on animals. These laws apply not just to Chinese brands, but to any overseas countries that want to enter the Chinese market.

Recently, a number of former cruelty-free brands, namely Avon, MAC and Estee Lauder, have made a U-turn on their policies and given up their cruelty-free views in order to begin selling their products to the Chinese market. It seems that Urban Decay will be the latest brand to join this ever-growing list of companies. This doesn't necessarily mean that the products sold in the UK have been tested on animals, but by giving the Chinese permission to test on their behalf, the brands are effectively forfeiting their ethos on animal cruelty.

Urban Decay's Public Statement
Announcing its decision to sell cosmetic products in China, Urban Decay explained that it remains opposed to animal testing. According to the company, its position on the issue has not changed in sixteen years and, despite entering the Chinese market, the firm will continue to support "women's rights and the fight against animal testing". Urban Decay described the decision to enter China as a "thoughtful one".

Since the company's announcement back in June this year, it has incurred a backlash from some of its fans, many of whom are fervent animal lovers and even animal rights activists. Social media was used by many fans, with over a thousand comments being left on the company's Facebook page and a similarly huge reaction on Twitter.

Following Urban Decay's announcement and the reaction from its users, the company's Leaping Bunny Logo has been withdrawn by the CCIC. It remains to be seen whether Urban Decay will go ahead with its plans and indeed the effect that moving into China will have on its business across the world.

Ann Taylor Concept Store Launch Party | Fashion Valley Mall

We are very excited to share with you our event coverage of San Diego's first Ann Taylor Concept Store located in the Fashion Valley Mall. The private launch party was hosted by Ann Taylor, San Diego Magazine, and The Junior League of San Diego.  A few San Diego Bloggers were also on hand co-hosting the event.  These very lucky ladies were outfitted head-to-toe in Ann Taylor's finest.  It goes without saying that they all looked fabulous!  Though we all couldn't be quite as fortunate, we did enjoy the treat of an exclusive first look at the pre-fall collection.  Not to mention the tasty hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and goody bag! If you were one of the attendees of the July 19th launch party then you can attest to wonderful hospitality of the entire crew!  We all left the event feeling like we received the VIP treatment!

Megan Smith: Event & Social Media Manager at San Diego Magazine, Madeline Powell, Cynthia & Vida

A very special THANK YOU to Gerald Labrador for capturing the evening! Look closely at the video as you just might spot yourself in it!

I really should have tried on a few outfits from the pre-fall line and had them photographed.  I was so caught up in the excitement of the evening that I didn't think about it until after the fact.  Additionally, I wish that I would've connected with the bloggers that were in attendance! Lessons learned for future events.

I would have loved to have seen a surprise styling of a party attendee!  Imagine how wonderful an Ann Taylor makeover would have felt for an unsuspecting guest?!  Not that anyone needed an ambush style makeover since everyone was already dressed to the nines!

Fashion Valley Ann Taylor Concept Store Launch Party

We had the pleasure of partying with Ann Taylor & San Diego Magazine last night at the Launch Party for Ann Talyor's Concept Store in Fashion Valley. I can hardly wait to tell you and to SHOW you (pictures coming SOON).  I couldn't contain my excitement as we really did have an amazing time! Stay tuned for more!

If you haven't visited the new store yet - please do!  I for one am so happy that I have a store just for ME!  As a fairly new mom - I tend to drift to the children's section at the department store. This does not leave much time for me. Shopping for myself has definitely taken a back seat. Coming out to the event reminded me of how much fun it is is to play dress up!  I am motivated to improve my wardrobe! I fell in love with Ann Taylor's Pre-Fall collection!  There were so many fashionable ladies in attendance!  San Diego Magazine sure does know how to put together a party!

I must know - when was the LAST time that you shopped for yourself?! I mean REALLY shopped. Accessories and ALL?

The Fountain of Youth

BY: Edward Beyer

Getting older is unavoidable but the conditions and symptoms associated with aging aren't. Instead of treating these conditions as we age, modern advances in science and medicine let us proactively prevent them from occurring in the first place and even reverse them.

For as long as I can remember, my hands and feet have always been freezing cold to the touch. Growing up, I remember how everyone would say to me, 'you're hands are freezing!' Of course, every doctor I went to always told me the same thing, that it was the result low blood pressure…take iron...but it never helped. Another thing is my cravings. I love and crave salty food and rich after i want sweets . I am also an insomniac....it takes me ages to fall asleep..i simply got too much energy at night. Worst of all I recently have been dealing with a leg injury s a result of a drunk man knocking me over and breaking my foot, tearing my tenant and ripping 3 ligaments. This injury was severe and taking its time to heal. Doctors told me that my symptoms were a result of my rigorous travel routine, stress and always being "on the go". That hardly helped.

A few weeks ago while filming my TV show in Miami, I made a life-changing discovery; Dr. Scott Becker, a world-renowned physician who practices advanced medicine at the American Longevity Center in Miami. An Anti- Aging and Proactive Medicine Institute. The first thing they did is send me for an extremely thorough blood test. Six vials of blood were drawn and sent off to the lab. OMG!!After my lab results were back I met with Dr. Scott Becker, a total gem.. Immediately I knew I was being "cared" for by a physician. He explained exactly why I felt the way I did and what the root cause was.

For the first time in all my years of complaining about my symptoms, Dr. Becker had an answer for me. Within the first few minutes of our meeting, he immediately said that my symptoms could be the result of a low functioning thyroid. No other doctor had ever even mentioned the word 'thyroid' to me before. I was intrigued. We also discussed several other symptoms I was having including my lack of energy in the morning and sudden burst of energy late in the day, and he advised me that these symptoms could be the result of adrenal fatigue.

I had never heard of these treatable conditions until I met Dr. Becker. And what's even more amazing is that he was able to come to these reasonable conclusions after spending just a few hours with me, listening to my symptoms and conducting a few simple tests. At that moment, I felt confident that I was finally going to get some relief from these uncomfortable symptoms. After our meeting, Dr. Becker prescribed Bio Identical compounded thyroid supplements for me. These are not mass manufactured prescription pills. These supplements are made in a compound pharmacy specifically for me and my needs.

It's been just a few weeks but already I am feeling and seeing results! My life has changed so dramatically because of Dr. Becker. He also gave me a unique blend of Vitamins and Minerals to re-balance my body. I am now an official pill popper...lol, that is VITAMIN PILLS...I even branded my pill box with FTV logo...why not haha! Fatigue, dry skin, sugar cravings and cold feet-- all improved. My skin is glowing.

I almost never made it to see Dr Becker. I had travel commitments that I wasn't going to cancel to see another doctor who was going to tell me to get some rest. My friend however was very persistent. He told me to drop everything and see this doctor, and I can't thank him enough for urging me to do so. After meeting Dr. Becker, I will never make another decision about my health again without consulting him first. Thanks to Skype we connect no matter where I am in the world.... got to love technology.

Going to see Dr Becker at American Longevity Center was the best thing I have ever done for myself. The centre focuses on unique anti ageing treatments that centre around maintaining your body at optimum health and keeping it functioning as it was in our 20's.
