Leading global developer and manufacturer of high-quality health and nutrition products USANA Health Sciences (NYSE: USNA) recently held a Filipino Leader and Distributor celebration at the Mall of Asia Arena to give recognition to the best performing distributors for the past year. According to USANA vice president for Pacific Region David Mulham, the regular event is geared towards creating "an opportunity to recognize the people that have been successful, as well as their different experiences. It's also to create an understanding for a lot of new people about what the potential is."
USANA is on its fourth year in the Philippines and now has an estimated 10,000 distributors all over the country. USANA president for Americas, Europe and South Pacific Kevin Guest noted that the business in the Philippines took off rather easily compared to other countries. "I've been to almost all of our country openings, and what was different in the Philippines than most of the other markets is that there were a lot of people just waiting for USANA to come [in]."
USANA was founded by internationally recognized microbiologist and immunologist Dr. Myron Wentz in 1992 and has since then been manufacturing high-quality supplements and personal care, energy and weight-management products. USANA products are grouped into three categories: Health and Wellness, Food and Skincare. The Essentials multivitamin line is the company's bestseller

Stop Taking Fish Oil Supplements Fish oil appears to offer no heart benefits
If this week's headlines have you thinking you can stop taking your fish oil supplements, keep reading. The headlines and news coverage of the study they were based on do not tell the whole story. But as I've said before, it is never a good idea to make a dietary change based on a single news report unless it's for a food recall, and here's why.
The research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association investigated whether people taking fish oil capsules had less risk of heart disease and death than those who did not. While the headlines said they did not, several factors limited the findings. The biggest one being that the subjects were not a healthy population, but people who had already suffered heart attacks and strokes. Since most people with a history of cardiovascular disease are taking multiple medications, it simply may not have been possible to tell what impact their fish oil supplements were having on lowering their risk factors.
Key Take-Away: This study provides no indication of how fish oil supplements benefit healthy people, but plenty of others do.
Why Take Fish Oil Capsules?
Fish oil capsules are a source of essential omega 3 fatty acids. An essential nutrient is required by the body, but cannot be manufactured by the body. That means we must get it from food or supplements.
What Types of Omega 3 Fatty Acids Do We Need?
There is not just one omega 3 fatty acid. The name omega 3 simply indicates that there is a double bond (between two carbon atoms) in a specific location on the fatty acid. For dietary purposes, we are most concerned with the types of omega 3s found in fatty fish, called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and the type found in plants called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).
What Role Do Omega 3 Fatty Acids Play in the Body?
Omega 3 fatty acids play a role in several metabolic processes, including reducing inflammation, lowering high triglyceride (blood fat) levels, reducing the pain and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis, improving cognitive function with aging, aiding the treatment of depression, and enhanced brain development in infants. Research also shows omega 3 may reduce the risk of plaque build up in the arteries, inflammatory bowel disease, Attention Deficit Disorder, bone loss, and psychiatric disorders.
How Much Omega 3 Do We Need?
The Institute of Medicine of the U.S. National Academy of Science establishes the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) for essential nutrients for both the U.S. and Canada. The DRI are intended to satisfy the nutrient needs of most healthy people in each age group. The Acceptable Intake (AI) of omega 3 fatty acids for males and females aged 40-50 years is 1.6grams/day and 1.1 grams/day respectively.
How Much Omega 3 Do We Consume?
Eating 8 ounces a week of a variety of seafood supplies about 1.7 grams of EPA and DHA, which is enough to meet the DRI for adult men and women noted above. But the mean intake of all types of fish eaten by Americans is 3.5 ounces per week, less than half the amount needed to meet the Acceptable Intake. Plant sources of omega 3, such as seed oils, walnuts, and soybeans, supply 1.3-2.0 grams a day of ALA, but less than 5 percent of it is converted to DHA and EPA.
Do We Need Fish Oil Supplements?
All dietary supplements are meant to help fill in the gaps created when we don't eat all the foods we need in the amounts we need to meet our nutritional needs every day. Fish oil supplement are an excellent way to get essential omega 3 fatty acids if you are not eating 8 ounce/week of seafood, such as salmon, sardines and tuna.

Why a pill just won't cut it
You can't turn on the television, open a web browser, or read the newspaper without an advertisement or study telling you a new way to be healthy. One study says chocolate will help you lose weight, another says it's all genetic anyway - how do you ever know what to believe? One way to think about it is to think about a time not too long ago before fad dieting and obesity were daily topics of conversation. How did your grandmother eat? How did her mother feed her? Many believe our ancestors were much healthier than we are today, and one way to boost our own health may be to mimic those diets. One thing they certainly didn't consume back then: dietary supplements and vitamins.
It may seem like popping a calcium pill is a great, easy way to get your nutrients. Maybe it even sounds more appetizing than having some yogurt. But did you know that a study by the British Medical Journal found a connection between taking calcium supplements and thirty percent rise in the risk of suffering a heart attack. That risk was not seen in those who got their calcium the old fashioned way - by ingesting it in their food - or in people who also took vitamin D with their calcium.
Another major drawback of going the supplement route is the risk that you will encounter adverse side effects. One report found that excessive amounts of vitamin A supplements can cause headaches and birth defects, lower bone strength and can even cause liver damage. Zinc has been associated with nausea, vomiting, and internal organ damage.
Supplements can also have interactions with your prescription medications. For example, blood-thinning medication and vitamin K can be a dangerous combination, potentially increasing risk for blood clots. Vitamins E and C may decrease the effectiveness of chemotherapy. So if you're taking a prescription and you add a dietary supplement to your daily regimen, you may find yourself experiencing some unexpected and unpleasant reactions.
What does all of this tell us? It's hard to say exactly, except that when you pop a pill, you don't really know what the effects will be. Something else you don't know: what's actually in that pill. While the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture technically regulate what can and cannot appear on a food label, there is no government regulator out there keeping track of what a dietary supplement's label out there. So the health claims made on those bottles could be - and some likely are - entirely made up out of thin air. Is that the kind of product you want to buy? Probably not.
The truth is that we can get all the nutrients we need by eating a balanced diet that relies on a variety of foods and food groups. And food offers a lot of great things that you can't buy in a pill. It brings people together; it teaches us about new cultures; it tastes good. Why would you want to skip all of those benefits for a questionably beneficial supplement? Especially when that supplement comes in a non-regulated bottle and costs money? Do yourself, your wallet, and your taste buds a favor and skip that morning dose.

The Fountain of Youth
BY: Edward Beyer
Getting older is unavoidable but the conditions and symptoms associated with aging aren't. Instead of treating these conditions as we age, modern advances in science and medicine let us proactively prevent them from occurring in the first place and even reverse them.
For as long as I can remember, my hands and feet have always been freezing cold to the touch. Growing up, I remember how everyone would say to me, 'you're hands are freezing!' Of course, every doctor I went to always told me the same thing, that it was the result low blood pressure…take iron...but it never helped. Another thing is my cravings. I love and crave salty food and rich after i want sweets . I am also an insomniac....it takes me ages to fall asleep..i simply got too much energy at night. Worst of all I recently have been dealing with a leg injury s a result of a drunk man knocking me over and breaking my foot, tearing my tenant and ripping 3 ligaments. This injury was severe and taking its time to heal. Doctors told me that my symptoms were a result of my rigorous travel routine, stress and always being "on the go". That hardly helped.
A few weeks ago while filming my TV show in Miami, I made a life-changing discovery; Dr. Scott Becker, a world-renowned physician who practices advanced medicine at the American Longevity Center in Miami. An Anti- Aging and Proactive Medicine Institute. The first thing they did is send me for an extremely thorough blood test. Six vials of blood were drawn and sent off to the lab. OMG!!After my lab results were back I met with Dr. Scott Becker, a total gem.. Immediately I knew I was being "cared" for by a physician. He explained exactly why I felt the way I did and what the root cause was.
For the first time in all my years of complaining about my symptoms, Dr. Becker had an answer for me. Within the first few minutes of our meeting, he immediately said that my symptoms could be the result of a low functioning thyroid. No other doctor had ever even mentioned the word 'thyroid' to me before. I was intrigued. We also discussed several other symptoms I was having including my lack of energy in the morning and sudden burst of energy late in the day, and he advised me that these symptoms could be the result of adrenal fatigue.
I had never heard of these treatable conditions until I met Dr. Becker. And what's even more amazing is that he was able to come to these reasonable conclusions after spending just a few hours with me, listening to my symptoms and conducting a few simple tests. At that moment, I felt confident that I was finally going to get some relief from these uncomfortable symptoms. After our meeting, Dr. Becker prescribed Bio Identical compounded thyroid supplements for me. These are not mass manufactured prescription pills. These supplements are made in a compound pharmacy specifically for me and my needs.
It's been just a few weeks but already I am feeling and seeing results! My life has changed so dramatically because of Dr. Becker. He also gave me a unique blend of Vitamins and Minerals to re-balance my body. I am now an official pill popper...lol, that is VITAMIN PILLS...I even branded my pill box with FTV logo...why not haha! Fatigue, dry skin, sugar cravings and cold feet-- all improved. My skin is glowing.
I almost never made it to see Dr Becker. I had travel commitments that I wasn't going to cancel to see another doctor who was going to tell me to get some rest. My friend however was very persistent. He told me to drop everything and see this doctor, and I can't thank him enough for urging me to do so. After meeting Dr. Becker, I will never make another decision about my health again without consulting him first. Thanks to Skype we connect no matter where I am in the world.... got to love technology.
Going to see Dr Becker at American Longevity Center was the best thing I have ever done for myself. The centre focuses on unique anti ageing treatments that centre around maintaining your body at optimum health and keeping it functioning as it was in our 20's. Having different sized breasts?
Having different-sized breasts is perfectly normal. It's quite common for girls to have different-sized breasts or nipples, especially as they develop during puberty. Everyone's different, and no two women's breasts will look exactly the same. In fact, asymmetry - where one body part, like a foot or a hand, is a slightly different size or shape from its partner - is quite common in humans.
When girls begin puberty, usually between the ages of 8 and 13, their breasts begin to develop starting with just a little swelling under the nipple. This is known as breast budding. You may notice that one of your breasts starts developing before the other or that one is growing more quickly. Many times this difference in breast size evens out once a girl is older, usually by age 20. But it's also perfectly normal for women's breasts to remain different sizes even when they're fully developed.
Some girls with different-sized breasts worry that there's something medically wrong, but chances are, for a teen, there isn't. If you're really worried about your breast size, talk to your doctor or gynecologist. He or she should be able to reassure you that your breasts are normal.
Girls who notice their breasts are different sizes are aware of their breasts - and that's good news. Being aware of your breasts can help you stay healthy! Learning how your breasts normally look (and feel) can help you notice any changes that might not be normal. Your doctor can teach you how to do a breast self-exam (BSE) that will help you become familiar with your breasts so you can identify any changes.
Some girls worry about their different-sized breasts for cosmetic reasons. Many girls with different-sized breasts or nipples just accept that they are normal and don't do anything differently. But other girls feel self-conscious. It's likely that no one else notices your breasts look different, though. Other people usually can't see the difference in the size of a girl's breasts - even if that difference is a full cup size.
The fact is that exercises, supplements, or diets won't change the size or shape of a girl's breasts - only plastic surgery can do that. (And most doctors recommend that a girl wait until her breasts have finished growing before considering plastic surgery.) Some girls decide to wear especially supportive bras or special inserts that make their breasts appear more equal in size. Talk to a lingerie salesperson if you want some suggestions for evening things out. It may also help to talk to your mom, older sister, or an aunt or grandmother - they may have worried about having different-sized breasts during their teen years, too.
Everyone develops differently, and it's normal for the two sides of our bodies to be a little different from each other. We humans aren't as evenly proportioned as we appear at first glance!
