Film award ceremonies and premieres of late have inspired many jewellery designers to try their hand at replicating some of the most beautiful jewellery seen in the world's most famous films. From the elegant pieces of the classic black and white movies to the show-stopping sparkle of pieces in modern-day films, there is no doubt that some incredibly stunning jewellery items have graced cinema screens over the years. Provided below is a summary of five films featuring necklaces, rings and earrings that will stop you in your tracks.
Heart of the Ocean
One of the most famous necklaces in the film industry has to be the Heart of the Ocean, otherwise known as the glittering jewel necklace that formed a central part of the film, Titanic. Although there was initially some confusion about what the setting was, with many mistaking it for a blue diamond, the wardrobe department from the film later revealed that it was a blue cubic zirconium. The jeweller who created the necklace was asked to design another version of the same necklace. This new version featured diamonds worth several million pounds and a stunning 170-carat Sapphire jewel. The necklace was worn at the 1998 Academy Awards by the singer Celine Dion, whose song, My Heart Will Go On, was featured in the film.
Rubies of Pretty Woman
One of the best scenes in the film Pretty Woman is, without a shadow of a doubt, the one in which Edward gives Vivian a box and snaps it shut whilst Vivian bursts out laughing. The Diamond and Ruby necklace inside went beautifully with her now iconic white gloves and red gown. The piece is thought to be worth more than £200,000 and was created by one of the most famous jewellery shops in France, Fred Joaillier. The necklace was made from 18k white gold and was then encrusted with diamonds and rubies.
Monroe's Diamonds
The jewels worn by iconic beauty Marilyn Monroe whilst acting in the film, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, are still adored by all who watch this film today. Her collection of jewellery during the film was so large that it's almost impossible to choose just one piece; in one scene, where Marilyn wore the stunning hot pink dress, she was draped in diamond bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces.
Carrie and the Black Diamond
Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City 2 wore an eye-catching 5-carat black diamond ring. Big, the love of Bradshaw's life, gives her the ring because he considers her to be unique, just like the diamond. Black diamonds became hugely popular after the film aired, much like the 'Carrie' letter necklace shot to fame during the television series.
Yellow Isadora Diamonds
Last, but certainly not least, is the Isadora necklace with an 84-carat yellow diamond, worn by Kate Hudson in the film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The real necklace is reportedly worth £3 million; however, even the replica used in the film was worth £8,000!
