R.I.P. Steven Woods

Roman Colosseum lit to protest an execution
On September 13, 2011, Texas executed Steven Woods for the 2002 murders of Ronald Whitehead and Bethena Brosz.  The co-defendant, Marcus Rhodes, is serving a life sentence.  At Woods' trial, the prosecution contended that Woods planned the crime and was the actual shooter.  Rhodes, however, reached a plea agreement in which he admitted to having personally shot both the victims.  Before he was put to death, Woods said:  "You're not about to witness an execution. You are about to witness a murder. I am strapped down for something Marcus Rhodes did. I never killed nobody, ever."

This is the 33rd execution in the United States in 2011, the tenth in Texas (and number 235 for Governor Perry).
