Features of Apple iPhone 5 16GB

The iPhone 5 was launched across India on 2nd November, 2012. The new edition was launched very soon after the last launch in the iPhone series. This iPhone earned its fame for homing the 6th generation of iOS which has since received an upgrade to the iOS 6.1. The iPhone 5, in true Apple style comes with a host of improvements over its predecessor that the company has been consistent about.

It comes in three versions of inbuilt memory - the 8, 16 and 32GB. We are about to do a review of the 16GB version of the iPhone 5.

Design

It has a very compact candy bar design. Its slim and tall dimensions of 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches are further enhanced with a body weight of mere 112 grams. The phone is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S. The phone is similar in looks to its predecessors except for the back which is made of anodized aluminium with ceramic inlays (on the white and silver model) or pigmented glass (on the black and slate model) on both ends of the phone.

Display

The iPhone 5 received half an inch raise in display size offering users a 4 inches LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with display size of 640 x 1136 pixels. The device has more length but retains the width of the previous iPhones. It has the retina display that was introduced with the 4S, which offers high pixel density of 326 ppi. The dimensions allow users to view more data on a single page.

Processor & RAM

The iPhone 5 has a 1.2GHz dual core Apple A6 processor with 1GB of RAM. Apple claims that the A6 chipset is twice as fast as the A5 chips that were built in the previous iPhones, also offering better graphic experience. The chip size is also 20% smaller, allowing the company to reduce the body size of the device. With these features, the phone promises a fast browsing experience. The absence of a quad core processor is likely to raise some eyes though.

Operating System

The iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 in the box and the new update of iOS 6.1 has recently been released which can be installed into the device. The iOS 6.1 comes with over 200 new applications including enhancements added to the existing applications. Some of the features include LTE support for more carriers, enhancements for Siri app, downloading individual songs from iCloud, a new Maps app and much more.

Camera

It has an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash which records videos at 1080 pixels. There is a 1.2 MP front camera that is useful for video calling. The front camera also has HD video recording facility, which means FaceTime can be done with HD video calls. The iPhone 5 also has a new feature called the Panorama Mode which allows users to take multiple photos at a time which are then stitched together to give panoramic photo. besides this the camera also offers features such as Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Auto focus, Touch to focus, Digital image stabilization, Face detection, Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode.

Memory & Battery

The phone comes in two other versions beside the 16GB version we are discussing. The Apple phones have never really offered the memory expansion provision externally. This is a major drawback of Apple phones. Also, users cannot use the entire 16GB of memory available; about 4GB of the 16GB is untouchable.

It's built with a 1,440mAh battery offering up to 8 hours talk time and 225 hours on standby on both 2G and 3G connections.

Verdict

The iPhone 5 version 16GB is different from the other two versions only in terms of the memory space available, the rest of the features remain same. It is a really great device with beautiful looks and features. Also add to it all the latest Apple features, be it the processor, camera or design. The device is available at a price of around Rs. 45,000.

Motor Sports, Demon Tweeks and the Modern Hobbyist: Preparing the Vehicle for Racing

The world is full of motor sports enthusiasts racers; detailers; and car preparation geeks whose central joy is the creation and performance of surprising machines. There's a lot of colour and power in these quite focused worlds, all of which have their own shorthand and their own special vehicles. Places like Demon Tweeks (and this is not the only one, by far), which supply the materials and the knowhow to serve the race enthusiasts, exist at the heart of the hobbyist's world.

To understand the products provided by the hobbyist centres, you first have to understand something about the world in which they exist. There are two core concepts at the heart of the racing world: speed and safety.

Speed is the ultimate goal of all racing preparation. It is, in itself, served by a nested set of sub-concepts all goals that the detailer or tuner wishes to achieve in order to serve the overall prize of attaining greater speeds without sacrificing safety. Performance, for example, which is a word you'll hear flying around the pits and garages a lot, is not simply defined as "going faster than everything else". To perform well, a vehicle must be nimble around corners without sacrificing too much forward motion in the process. It must be able to achieve high speeds quickly without losing handling ability.

To achieve good performance, the tuner looks not just at the power developed by the engine, but the ability of the suspension to deal with that power as it is pushed out through turning wheels. As a rapidly moving vehicle changes direction, the bite of the wheels on the racing surface is compromised by the sudden intrusion of lateral and twisting forces which, where rigid suspension is concerned, can be translated into fishtailing and bellying. Modern suspension, then, must be introduced to take more individual control of each wheel effectively allowing the car or bike to cope with changes in directional force as well as changes in the actual architecture of the road beneath.

There's a fine line the tuner and detailer must tread, between weight and power. The lighter a vehicle is, the faster it goes: but then the more powerful it is, the harder it becomes to control without weight sitting over the wheels. The goal is to find the perfect medium between stripping out extra weight and adding more power, so the car or bike may be controlled by an expert without shaving active horsepower out of its performance. "Active horsepower" may be thought of as the amount of power developed by the engine that actively increases the speed of the vehicle, rather than simply allowing the wheels to move the weight of its body.

The second major element of vehicle tuning safety is present throughout all of these considerations. To make a vehicle lighter, for example, a person may also make it much less structurally safe particularly where the major weight elements in the chassis and frame are those installed to keep the driver safe.

To properly tune a car for racing, then, it is necessary to replace key bits of the body with lighter but stronger materials. Carbon is often used for this purpose. Its structural integrity makes it much more robust than metal. Yet it is also much lighter, allowing the vehicle to develop more power and performance.

Kentucky's well-being ranks next to last, just above West Virginia

Kentucky ranks next to last in the annual Gallup-Healthways Well-Being index, just ahead of West Virginia. The Bluegrass State ranked last in the index's Healthy Behaviors category, which measures the percentage of residents who smoke, exercise frequently and eat healthy daily.

The chart on the left shows Kentucky's score in each of the six categories. The state's rankings haven't changed much since last year, with the exception of the Work Environment index, which fell from 8th to 31st.  The colored chart on the right shows the state's overall and category rankings for 2011 and 2012 (1 is the highest rank and 50 is the lowest). Click here for the detailed report on Kentucky.

Left: Kentucky Well-Being Indexes     Right: Well-Being rankings of Kentucky among the states
West Virginia, with an index score of 61.3, had the lowest well-being for the fourth year in a row. The report shows West Virginians were the least likely to be thriving and also had the nation's worst emotional health. They had the lowest score in the Physical Health category, which reflects having the highest percentage of obese residents in the nation.

There were few changes from 2011 to 2012 among states with the highest and lowest well-being scores. Hawaii residents had the highest well-being for the fourth straight year, followed by Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, and Vermont.

The report shows a consistent regional pattern in well-being over the past five years. Western and Midwestern states earned seven of the 10 highest overall scores, while New England states held the other three spots. Southern states had the six lowest scores, and Southern states had eight of the 10 lowest well-being scores.

Health departments in N. Ky. and Franklin County are among the first 11 in the nation to be accredited, a milestone in public health

Three Kentucky departments are among the first 11 in the nation to receive accreditation from the national Public Health Accreditation Board, which announced the achievements Thursday.

The Franklin County Health Department, the Three Rivers District Health Department in Carroll, Gallatin, Owen and Pendleton counties, and the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department, in Boone, Grant, Kenton and Campbell counties received five-year accreditation.

"I am proud of the departments achieving this public health milestone of national accreditation," said board Chair Dr. Douglas Scutchfield, professor of health services research and policy at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. "Before now, there has not been a national system for health departments to demonstrate accountability and quality to their community."

Scutchfield said accreditation means a department is providing a "high quality of public health service, leadership and accountability to its constituents," and is a clear indication of the departments' "passion and dedication to improving and protecting the health" of the community.

The board, funded by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, has received 128 total applications for accreditation: 112 from local health departments, 15 from state departments; and one tribal department.

In addition to the three Kentucky departments that have received accreditation, other Kentucky departments have applied and are awaiting site visits. Those are the Lexington-Fayette County, Barren River District, Madison County and Christian County health departments, said Jill Midkiff, chief spokesperson for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Although accreditation is completely voluntary, it is being encouraged for local health departments by the state Department for Public Health, which is in the process of applying for its own accreditation in 2014. Midkiff said the department just completed its state health assessment, which is now being reviewed, and is beginning to assemble partners to write a state health improvement plan, which should take about a year. Make sure your first aid serves its purpose!

Until you really really need it, you often don't even think about having a first aid kit. Having the right first aid kit can save the day in a home or office situation. Apart from that, as a responsible workplace manager you should take care of the welfare of your workers by having first aid at the ready. By adding and subtracting just a few items from your kit you
  • If travel or spend a lot of time in the car you should definitely invest in a car kit
  • If you are out and about doing fieldwork or outdoor activities, a bumbag might be the best kind of kit for you
  • Specialised hiking kits are also available
  • Your kit should comprise of a series of basic items like gauze, adhesive tape, eyewash, sterile wipes and gloves as well as a selection of specialised items like burn treatments, depending on the kind of work you do
  • You should update your kit every two to three years
  • consider buying a separate first aid kit for your kitchen and then one for the rest of the house, as the kitchen is one of the main danger areas in the home
  • Make sure you include these items in your kit, these are often forgotten; emergency phone numbers and contact numbers, medical consent forms, the medical history of any family members, sunscreen, a flashlight and candles, a syringe, a medical cup and spoon, an epi pen, and diarrhoea medication.

House sends Senate pill-mill and Medicaid managed-care fixes

The state House yesterday approved without dissent two bills aimed at improving Kentucky's health care.

House Bill 217 addresses some "unintended consequences" of last year's "pill mill bill" by easing some of the bills regualtions. The bill also tightens restricitions on prescription drugs, reports Ryan Alessi of cn|2.

The other measure, House Bill 5, deals with payment problems of the Medicaid managed care system. Itl would apply the prompt-payment laws to managed-care organizations and would move Medicaid late-payment complaints and disputes to the insurance department; those are now handled by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which administers Medicaid.

Both bills are expected to see action in the Senate.

Lack of statewide smoking ban represents one part of Kentucky's struggle to deal with tobacco use and the health issues it creates

By Molly Burchett
Kentucky Health News

As the bill for a statewide smoking ban lies on its deathbed in the General Assembly, new federal data show Kentucky still has the highest percentage of smokers (29 percent) of any state, leads the nation in the share of smoking high school students (24 percent) and spends only a minuscule portion of their tobacco revenues to fight tobacco use. Those figures come from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Tobacco Control State Highlights 2012 report. (For county-by-county figures, click here.)

The lack of a statewide smoking ban, which nevertheless has become popular among Kentuckians, represents only a small part of the struggle to address Kentuckians' tobacco use and resulting health problems. Kentucky's program to discourage tobacco use has been severely underfunded for years, contributing to the state's lack of or slow progress in reducing its smoking and tobacco use rates and subsequent health problems, said Dr. Ellen Hahn, director of the Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy at the University of Kentucky.

State tobacco revenue (left bar) and spending (right bar)
The CDC says Kentucky should spend $57.2 million a year to have an effective, comprehensive tobacco-prevention program, but the state allocates only $2.1 million a year to such programs -- 3.7 percent of the recommended amount.

By another measure, the amount is only 0.6 percent of the estimated $381 million the state gets from tobacco taxes and the 1998 national settlement with cigarette manufacturers, according to a tobacco settlement report.

Meanwhile, Kentucky's health-care costs attributable to smoking add up to about $1.5 billion a year, and smoking-caused productivity losses total $2.3 billion a year. These amounts do not include health costs caused by exposure to secondhand smoke, smoking-caused fires, smokeless tobacco use or cigar and pipe smoking.

Despite the known health risks that tobacco use poses, smoking in Kentucky remains a part of everyday life in most places. But that is increasingly less so around the country, so there is an increasing gap between heavy-smoking and low-smoking states; smoking in Kentucky is about twice as prevalent as in Utah and California, reports Steven Reinberg of HealthDay. Click here for an interactive map of states' tobacco prevention efforts.
There are proven, multi-pronged strategies to curb smoking. They include combinations of higher tobacco taxes, smoke-free laws, media campaigns, and restricted access to tobacco products. However, Kentucky continues to lag behind other states due to "stagnant policies" and a lack of funding, said Hahn.

Many other factors contribute to Kentucky's lack of tobacco-prevention progress. By failing to substantially reduce adult smoking, the state misses opportunities to encourage younger adults and children not to smoke, Hahn said. Kentucky needs to employ strategies that communicate the success and affordability of tobacco cessation programs, she said; people often lack the encouragement to quit smoking because they don't know how or they don't believe it is possible.

The latest tobacco report is a timely reminder that tobacco use remains a huge public health problem for Kentucky and there are proven strategies that, if implemented, could help Kentuckians live a healthier, tobacco-free life.

A Restaurant Meet - Up Story

Cute Actor CA has always been questioned about his preferences. Ever since he got noticed on his television soaps, the same kind of talk hounded him. It maybe partly due to his hunky physique and handsome attributes that people, especially his many women fans can’t seem to accept if he indeed is. Anyway you put it, the fact that since such rumors refuse to die down, there must be something than meets the eye.

To his credit, CA just let these talks go around and take its course – he neither denied nor confirmed it, not until recently when he flatly denied the whole thing and all the gossips that went around for sometime. Some observers were not convinced. Celebrities especially for someone as popular as CA, tend to catch people’s attention anywhere they go, and that includes parties and/or gatherings they attend to.

At a dinner that he recently attended along with some good friends, CA was in a celebratory mood and allegedly got one drink too many. The party venue was held in a relatively pricey restaurant. While some waiters were serving them, CA took a liking to one of the waiters WR. Throughout the party, his eyes were fixated towards WR alone - his special waiter that evening.

A day after, at the same restaurant, waiters were having a blast talking animatedly about the scoop of the day: CA took home WR! Apparently, WR, the kiss and tell, was bragging to his colleagues about his extra-ordinary and unforgettable evening with CA the night before. WR said he just couldn’t get over CA - his kindness, his generosity, his versatility and full-packed giftedness. Oh uh …

'Incredible Colon' to march across the state in Colon Cancer Awareness Month; more than a dozen stops scheduled

A special tour throughout the state of the Incredible Colon — an inflatable model of a human colon, large enough for visitors to walk through it — will promote education about risks and preventive measures of colon cancer during March, National Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality in Kentucky and nationwide, and it affects men and women of all ethnicities. Kentuckians have a higher than average risk of colon cancer due to higher rates of obesity, diets high in fat, and lack of regular exercise.

As many as 60 percent of deaths from colorectal cancer could be prevented if everyone age 50 and older were screened regularly, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Screenings detect any abnormalities or early signs of cancer, like polyps in the colon, and when detected early, polyps can be easily removed during a colonoscopy before they develop into cancer. When colon cancer is found early and treated, the five-year relative survival rate is 90 percent, underscoring the need for preventive health exams.

However, only 63 percent of Kentuckians who should have screening tests have had them, according to Kentucky data from the federal Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, an ongoing national survey.

The colon tour is a coordinated promotion by the Kentucky Cancer Program, local cancer councils and the Kentucky Colon Cancer Prevention Project. It is free and open to the public and will take place in 13 Kentucky communities March 4-28:

• March 4: Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg (10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
• March 5: Walmart, Manchester (Noon - 4 p.m.)
• March 6: Hazard ARH Medical Mall, Hazard (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
• March 7: Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, Morehead (members
  only, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
• March 8: Frankfort Regional Hospital, Frankfort (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
• March 19: Lexmark, Lexington, (Employees only, 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
• March 20: Lawrence County High School, Louisa (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
• March 21: Lady of Bellefonte Health Center, Grayson (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
• March 23: Phillip Sharp Middle School, Butler (8-11 a.m. )
• March 25: Town Center Mall, Ashland (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
• March 26: Walmart, Georgetown (3-6 p.m.)
• March 27: Adron Doran University Center, Morehead (9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
• March 28: Walmart, Somerset (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Attendees are invited to dress in blue, the color of colon cancer awareness, and there will be door prizes, giveaways (while supplies last), refreshments and educational information about colon cancer screening, prevention and early detection. (Read more)

As good as pills: Mediterranean diet prohibits nothing that was recognized as food by your great-grandmother

From NYTimes: The Times's Gina Kolata talks about a new study, published on The New England Journal of Medicine's Web site, focusing on the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet.

When Diet Meets Delicious - The Mediterranean Approach http://buff.ly/XCsvTJ -- Mediterranean diet prohibits nothing that was recognized as food by your great-grandmother.

Here is the original research from NEJM:

In a multicenter trial in Spain, 7447 participants who were at high cardiovascular risk, but with no cardiovascular disease at enrollment (age range, 55 to 80 years, 57% were women), were randomly assigned to one of three diets:

- a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil
- a Mediterranean diet supplemented with mixed nuts
- a control diet (advice to reduce dietary fat)

Participants received quarterly educational sessions and, and depending on group assignment, free provision of extra-virgin olive oil, mixed nuts, or small nonfood gifts.

The primary end point was the rate of major cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes). On the basis of the results of an interim analysis, the trial was stopped after a median follow-up of 4.8 years.

The two Mediterranean-diet groups had good adherence to the intervention. A primary end-point event occurred in 288 participants.

The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios were 0.70 and 0.72 for the group assigned to a Mediterranean diet with extra-virgin olive oil (96 events) and the group assigned to a Mediterranean diet with nuts (83 events), respectively, versus the control group (109 events).

Among persons at high cardiovascular risk, a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events (the study was funded by the Spanish government).

Google Introduces Chrome-based Touch Screen Laptop

Google's Chrome OS is still a small player in the PC market, unlike Android's dominance of mobile. However, the search giant is making moves to improve its position. This month it has revealed the first touch screen Chromebook, but is it any good?

Touches Of Chrome
More and more modern laptops are taking advantage of touchscreen technology in order to help this traditional portable PC form factor take the fight to the booming tablet market.

Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system (OS) is explicitly designed to work well in a touch-based technological environment, although even this latest offering from one of the world's largest companies is having a tough time holding onto the market share established by its forebears.

Google has the smartphone and tablet industries wrapped up with the finger-friendly Android, but it remains a very minor player when it comes to the laptop market.

Here its Chrome OS is facing an uphill struggle to convince consumers that it is worth picking over Windows or Apple's OS X, largely because it is based almost entirely in web connectivity and the cloud, which renders it almost useless if you happen to lack broadband at home.

Google is hoping to convince people that Chrome OS is still a viable alternative with the introduction of a new Chromebook device that is already being compared with Apple's MacBook Air.

The new laptop is known as the Pixel, which is a reference to the fact that its touchscreen display has allegedly been endowed with the highest pixel density of any portable PC currently on the market.

Google's Linus Upson helped to reveal the Pixel and said that it has a ppi rating of 239. That is not quite as impressive as the iPhone 5's 326ppi, but of course users will not be holding the Pixel quite so close to their faces.

The screen is also of course touch sensitive, which is why Upson went all out in promoting the tactile intuitiveness of the Chrome OS when interacted with via fingers rather than a keyboard and mouse.

Users can swipe between open applications, change tabs on the browser and generally engage with most aspects of the OS without having to use anything else other than their digits.

The screen measures 12.85 inches across the diagonal and has a native resolution of 2560x1700, whilst its Gorilla Glass surface gives its a premium glossy finish and should also make it durable, which is important for something that is going to constantly come into contact with a user's hands.

The Pixel is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor and uses solid state storage to keep everything running quickly, as well as minimising boot times.

Connectivity is also impressive, with both Wi-Fi and 4G LTE antennas housed within its slender chassis.

Laptops with touch screens still have a long way to go if they are going to fight back against tablet rivals, so this Chromebook still has a lot to prove.

Ideal Diet Before Workout

For workout, one of the most essential things is that you should have energy to go through the session. And the energy comes from the food you intake. Therefore, it is imperative that you know about the foods that can help you during the workout and help complement your hard work.

Eating before the workout is one of the most crucial acts that have a direct impact on the effectiveness of the workout. The lines below discuss some information pertaining to eating before workout.

What To Eat

When to Eat:

Having a full stomach during the workout may upset you and result in nausea, and cramping. The purpose of eating before workout is to provide you energy for the workout, which only comes when the food you have eaten has been converted into energy. Therefore, pertaining to eating before workout, eat 1-4 hours before the work out.

What to Eat:

The body turns the consumed food into glucose to provide energy to the body during the workout. Therefore, foods that are easy to adjust must be consumed with high concentration of carbohydrates to ensure that the body immediately receives energy during the workout. Moreover, what you need to eat before the workout, depends upon the kind of workout you are doing, and food must contain a reasonable or required proportion of meal and fluid. Nutritional and protein sports supplements can also be of great assistance in this regard.

The foods you can consume pertaining to the time left in the workout are given below:

Hour Before Workout- The foods may include the following:

· Fresh fruit like, watermelon, oranges, grapes, peaches

· Energy gels

· A cup of sports drink

Three Hours Before Workout- The foods you can consume two to three hours before workout include:

· Fresh fruits

· Bread

· Pasta

· Bagels

· Water

· Yogurt

Four Hours Before Workout- The foods you can consume three to four hours before the workout include:

· Fresh fruit

· Pasta with sauce

· Energy bar

· Baked potatoes

· Yogurt

· Water

· Bread with some peanut butter, cheese or lean meat

Glucose and Workout Performance:

Glucose is the energy source and helps you achieve greater performance during the workout. Eating a little sugar about half an hour before the workout. Thus, when your energy levels go down, the sugar you had consumed before the workout will provide you with energy.

Caffeine and Workout Performance:

The notion that caffeine helps improve workout performance is plainly wrong. All it has to do is with the cognitive functioning and it has nothing to do with the reservation of glycogen or providing of energy to the body.

Foods to Avoid:

There are certain foods, which you need to avoid before the workout. Foods that are high in fiber or fat are digested slowly; therefore, they remain in the stomach for long time, which causes discomfort and cramping. Therefore, to enjoy a good and healthy workout, avoid doughnuts, potato chips, fries, candy bars, and meat as a pre workout meal.

Bottom Line:

In a nutshell, you need to have an understanding about the food you need to eat before and after the workout in order to get the maximum benefits from the workout. The healthier and better you eat, more will your performance during the workout improve, and closer you will get to your objective.

How can you find the Best Orthopedic Surgeons?

If you are planning to go for total knee replacement, it is important that you get in touch with a renowned surgeon for undergoing this surgery. Total knee replacement is an extremely crucial surgery and for this reason, you need to choose a surgeon who understands your problems and provides you with options to overcome them. In this article, we will highlight some tips that will help you to find best orthopedic surgeons. Read on.

The Surgeon should be Skilled

Take care with a big cold-weather killer, the space heater

Warm weather isn't far away, but winter remains, and precautions should be taken to steer clear of a big cold-weather killer -- the space heater -- for the season's remaining cold days.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that each year, space heaters cause more than 25,000 residential fires and more than 300 deaths, and more than 6,000 Americans get emergency-room care for burn injuries associated with room heaters.

An Eastern Kentucky fire started by a space heater claimed the lives of one adult and four children last month. This blaze destroyed a rural house and family and was considered by authorites to be the worst the region has seen in a long time.

Using a space heater makes sense, and many people, particularly those in rural areas, use them to stay warm; but they must be used with caution. The Burn Center at Loyola University Medical Center is warning the public about the dangers of space heaters because many of the injuries they cause are preventable if the appropriate measures are taken. Here are some general safety tips from Loyola:

• Keep space heaters at least three feet away from furniture or other combustible material
• Don't place heaters on carpets or rugs.
• Locate heaters on a hard, level surface where a child or family pet can't brush against them.
• Never leave a heater on when an adult is not present in the room.
• Never keep flammable liquids near a heater.
• Mobile homes should use only electric heaters or vented, fuel-fired heaters.

Loyola also advises to use combustion space heaters only outside your home because they release carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. If the heater is not properly vented, high levels of these gases are deadly. Also, when using electric space heaters, be sure to plug the heater directly into a wall outlet and use a heavy duty cord. Making Love Groove

Pretty Star PS and Hunky Actor HA seem to be enjoying each other’s company – and their new relationship – if rumors are to be believed. Most likely, their relationship bloomed along with their respective characters in their show together. PS who was previously alleged to be in a relationship with a Dramatic Actor DA is now happily singing beautiful music with HA. To be fair with DA, he loved PS so very much and he believed it was a mutual love he shared with her. They were often sighted dining out together and doing things like normal lovers do. But unfortunately, not all good things are meant to last.

Their problems came about when PS’ Mother expressed her big disapproval of her daughter’s relationship with DA. It was alleged that PM did not want PS to get involved with “just anyone” aka someone of lesser stature in life. This had been a constant battle between mother and daughter. In the beginning, PS tried to assert her right to her Mom for her to run her own life. It came to a point that Mom allegedly slapped her for being stubborn and not listening to her. It was at this point that PS gave up, and began staying away from DA that led to their eventual break-up. In the end, it was Mom who prevailed.

Now that PS is seeing another guy in HA, things are turning up roses. She is certainly having the best of both worlds as she finally got the approval of her very difficult and picky mother. And why not? HA is definitely a prized catch in every aspect - extremely good-looking, talented, and most of all – moneyed. That was what’s important to her Mom, according to people within their circle.

Meanwhile, HA is getting encouraged by his blooming feelings for PS. Both have gotten very close and really inspire each other – according to fans and co-workers.They haven’t openly admitted it, but in one interview, HA wanted to bring their friendship to a higher level. That is a breath short of admitting the real score. How long will it last? Only Mom can tell, perhaps?

Food Suppliers and the Catering Trade - Learning to Manage a Kitchen Order

The catering trade isn't easy to run. It's based on an element of unpredictability, and constantly battles with itself to balance the need to have as much food as its guests want, with the requirement not to order too much.

It takes a while to get used to the routines of food ordering. The novice manager isn't helped by the fact that different owners have different ways of doing things. Some prefer to keep their stocks on the dangerous side of low, stating that they would rather run out of items and take them off the menu until the food suppliers next visit: while others can't abide the idea that a customer could order something from the menu that isn't available anymore.

The two points of view are represented, in one way or another, across the board of catering establishments and hospitality industry locations.

The first point of view is not just financially motivated. It is, of course, true that you can't lose money on food if you are selling more than you order; or, rather, that you can't ever waste money by throwing food away, if you order less than you need. However, there's a second element to this ordering model.

A restaurant or bar that runs out of a popular dish may, within reason, create and reinforce a reputation for itself as a popular place to eat - and for those dishes it runs out of as so popular it cannot keep up with demand. As long as the speed with which a certain dish sells out is not ludicrous, and as long as guests are able to order the majority of dishes on menu for most of the time, then the catering establishment that sometimes drops stock levels creates an atmosphere of exclusivity that is hard to develop in other ways.

At the other end of the spectrum, the second point of view holds that no restaurant or bar should ever find itself in a position where it has to deny a customer the food he or she has chosen from the menu. Again, there's more going on here than at first meets the eye - some subtleties that must be weighed in the accounts before this approach can be seen to bear fruit.

The first and most cautionary note to sound here is that of overstocking. Overstocking on food is the nightmare of every kitchen or establishment manager. If you have to throw away what you ordered, you can't sell it and make a profit - and you can't recoup the original cost of ordering it either.

Every establishment will, at some point, have to throw away food it has ordered. This is the nature of the business and is true even of food that can be frozen. The trick, for the business keen always to have the full menu in operation, is to ensure that wastage happens only very infrequently. In order to make that assurance, it becomes necessary to develop a solid understanding of the patterns that affect the restaurant trade.

Seasonal patterns allow some restaurant managers to work out when they are likely to need their largest and smallest orders - big in July and August, for example, and small in February. There's nothing like hands-on experience to back this up. Judging current trade patterns on top of known seasonal patterns allows the manager to make informed choices.

Green Tea And Weight Loss

Green tea is widely recognized as being one of the healthier beverages. There are numerous health benefits to drinking green tea on a regular basis: more energy, a lower risk of cancer, a slowing of the aging process, and more. Green tea can also be used to help people lose weight. It is not a magical elixir that will cause the pounds to immediately start shedding, but if drunk regularly, it can contribute to weight loss.

Weight Loss

One of the ways that green tea can contribute to weight loss is by how it affects glucose. Fat cells are created by the body when there is an excess of sugars and fats in the system. This extra content can’t be used by the body right away and so it is stored for a later date when there is not enough sugars and fats coming in. A part of green tea called catechins inhibits the movement of glucose in our bodies and so fat cells do not form as readily. This helps lead to a reduction in fat cells and therefore a loss in weight.

Green tea also affects the speed and movement of carbohydrates. When carbohydrates are released quickly, there is a sharp increase in blood-insulin levels, which can lead to the formation and solidification of fat cells. Green tea helps slow down the release of carbohydrates, which allows fat to be burned rather than stored.

Green tea’s mix of caffeine and catechin-polyphenols, in particular epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), work well together to slow the release of carbohydrates. This burning of fat is called the thermogenic effect and it tells your body to keep burning the fat rather than storing it. Green tea is especially useful in prolonging this process. Usually caffeine alone will increase your metabolism during the time you take it, but the mix of caffeine and EGCG will work together to increase the thermogenic effect over 24 hours, providing you with more energy.

This burning of fat, or fat oxidation, is created naturally through green tea, and will avoid a lot of the side effects that can be caused by taking supplements to achieve the same result. The compounds found in green tea are a natural synthesion that mix with the chemicals in our bodies to create a safe and natural level of fat oxidation.

Research has shown that drinking about 5 cups of green tea per day could result in about an extra 75 calories being burned. Obviously this is not a huge number but it can make a difference. Drinking only green tea and continuing with your current routine would mean losing about one pound after a month and a half. This is probably not fast enough for most people, but the natural health and weight loss benefits of green tea are greater when used in conjunction with other dieting methods.

Green tea alone won’t cause huge drops in weight, but it can help effectively, especially when done with other dieting techniques. Proper exercise, a balanced series of meals every day, and other healthy living actions can combine with the benefits of green tea to help increase and maintain weight loss. Apps that make great business sense

Making your business mobile makes a huge amount of sense logistically. Luckily, there are a number of eminently suitable apps to help you get the cogs of your business turning, even when you are on the move.

Maybe your business just doesn't have a proper office yet, or perhaps you are in the middle of moving office. Possibly the needs of your business require you to be on the move a lot of the time. Perhaps you just like to travel a lot and you can get away with working through your devices while padding around in your flip-flops and Speedos. Either way, you need to make sure that your smartphone or tablet can help you get the job done in record time, so you have more time to work on the real important things in life, like your tan.

Readdle Pro Scan and Printer Pro: Imprint this on your memory

These are two exceptionally useful apps, which you will find handy when you are in the office, and not just when you are travelling. Scanner Pro essentially transforms your device into a portable scanner. It is very quick and convenient to use and is particularly useful for scanning segments of documents. Meanwhile the Printer Pro gives the user the option of printing attachments, documents and web pages straight from an iPhone or iPad. Again it is very convenient and saves a fair amount of the hassle of using an office computer. It is perhaps particularly handy for small businesses where there is not that much call or space for a proper office. Restaurateurs, bar owners and clothing shop owners would probably find both tools especially useful.

OfficeTime: Every minute spent is a pound earned

If you have the luxury of being able to bill your customers by the hour or even, heaven be praised, by the minute, then OfficeTime will help make sure that you don't miss a second of how long you spent working on a project.

The app comes free and is more than adequate for smaller-sized offices thanks to being able to track multiple hourly rates with multiple timers. It also operates effectively offline. There is a timer in the background so you can keep track of how much time you are spending on each project as you work on it.

There is a simple upgrade to the pro version, which larger law firms, for example, will find useful. There is also a feature that allows you to export the date to Excel or Numbers, which makes invoicing much easier.

My Lead Responder: An easy sell

There is an extraordinarily fine-line between following up a lead and pestering. Your client or lead is invariably busy and will most likely require gentle pushing to remind him to sign up to your services. If you are too timid or simply forget to chase the lead up then you could easily lose the client, but at the same time if you push too hard you could end up causing resentment. With My Lead Responder, you can easily keep track of how much time has passed between each push, so that you always get it just right. It also helps you keep track of the dates you agreed with your client to reconvene the enquiry. Estate agents in particular will love this app.

FormMobi: Send forms at a fair clip

FormMobi is a Cloud-based clipboard that will save you hours of retyping. Just create a form, collect the data remotely on your smartphone, or even better, your tablet, and then export the data to any platform with just the click of a button.

Bill for statewide smoking ban appears to have been extinguished

The bill to enact a statewide smoking ban in Kentucky appears to be dead for this session of the General Assembly.

The House sent House Bill 190 back to committee today, and "House Speaker Greg Stumbo said he doesn't expect the bill to make it back to the full House," Sam Dick reported for WKYT-TV.

Rep. Bob Damron, D-Nicholasville, an opponent of the bill, told Kentucky Health News on Feb. 21 that he did not think it had more than 41 votes in the 100-member House.

DIY Citrus Vinegar Cleaner

What did we do before Pinterest? How did we organize all of our favorite recipes, food blogs, and discover amazing tips for natural and green cleaning solutions? Maybe it's just me, but I definitely feel like I had a lot more free time before Pinterest came along!

This DIY Citrus Vinegar Cleaner was one of those amazing Pinterest discoveries that I am now absolutely addicted to using in our home. I love that it doesn't involve any chemicals and is a wonderful way to reuse citrus peels that would have otherwise made their way into the compost. When diluted with water, this cleaner is perfect for cleaning mirrors, glass, counter tops, and moping floors. And, if you have already jumped on board with using baking soda and vinegar for hair care, this is a fabulous way to make your vinegar rinse smell fruity!

DIY Citrus Vinegar Cleaner

Ingredients and Supplies:
Citrus peels
Glass jar
White vinegar
Spray bottle

Instructions:
Cut peel off of citrus fruit and place in jar.
Cover with vinegar and allow to sit for two weeks.
Remove peels and dilute vinegar 1:1 with water.
Pour into spray bottle.
Use as a cleaner for windows, glass, counters, and mopping floors.

You can also mix the vinegar/water mixture with a little Dr. Bronner's soap or baking soda for more cleaning power.

House panel approves bill easing rules of 2012's pill-mill bill

They could call it the pill they're taking to fix the pill-mill bill.

A state House committee approved a bill Tuesday that would tweak last year's legislation aimed at cracking down on prescription drug abuse through doctor shopping and "pill mills" where painkiller prescriptions are easily available for a fee.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo told the House Judiciary Committee that House Bill 217 would fix “unintended consequences” of 2012's House Bill 1 while still requiring that health-care providers use the Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting system to track painkiller prescriptions.

The bill "would exempt hospitals and long-term care facilities from HB 1’s per-unit patient dosing restrictions and ensure that physicians decide when physicals are needed," the Kentucky Press News Service reported. "It would limit restricted access to narcotic pain medication for surgery patients, end-of-life patients, cancer patients and a few other categories of patients who may need increased pain management, Stumbo said." Hello Kimora Lee Simmons and Bethenny Frankel:Secret to Love and Money Revealed by Financial Advisor Michael Minter

Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou aren’t as committed to each other as they used to be.

A source close to the couple tells us the glamazon and her “Gladiator” beau have split after a “big fight over money.

“Djimon walked out on Kimora,” says the source, who adds that the split may have been prompted by Simmons’ ex-husband, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons ’ decision to stop funding the pair’s lifestyle.

Also Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy are fighting over m-m-m-money, as most divorces are in Hollywood.

Considering Bethenny has become super crazy, mega-loaded, partly during her time with Jason, everyone has their eye on that margarita glass filled with gold as the insider added:
“He feels that when he met Bethenny she was just in the beginning stages of launching her SkinnyGirl cocktail line, and he gave her a lot of free marketing advice and help. She relied on him A LOT during that time and he believes that’s what helped her build a brand that was ultimately sold for $100 million. Any money made by Bethenny and Jason during the marriage is going to be a huge fighting issue. Bethenny sold SkinnyGirl after they married and Jason contends he was a large part of her success, and maintains that he worked for her as an unpaid employee for many, many years.”
Are you familiar with these fights (that could lead to divorce)? Are you as a couple also fighting over your finances?

Financial Advisor and author Michael Minter reveals the secret for Love and Money in an interview at Fox:

One-third of couples, both married and de facto, say that money is the primary problem in their relationship.

Problems arise when couples think and act differently over their money and can't communicate and negotiate solutions. If you can avoid polarisation about your money then it's likely you'll have a long and successful relationship.

There are many approaches that work for couples. Here's some food for thought:
  • Many couples have a joint account for bills and emergencies, contributing equally or according to ability, and separate personal spending money to keep some autonomy.
  • If your spending patterns are different with one person being a spender and one a saver, you need to work together and budget, not accuse the other person.
  • If you haven't done so already, sit down and list your common goals as well as the differences in your approach to money.
  • Accept that one or both of you has debts and work together to pay them off.
  • Once you're married, or have been living together for three years, any debt the other person racks up is your debt as well — even after you split.

Why a financial advisor is so important for couples?

Consumers often mistakenly believe that financial advisors are mainly investment advisors, but the fact is that genuine financial advisors provide a broad range of financial advice for a broad range of personal financial situations.

Financial Advisors can help couples such as:

Organize and manage their finances. Many couples have complex financial lives, yet lack the time, expertise, discipline and objectivity to put their financial house in order. An advisor can examine their overall net worth and financial situation, help them identify their life goals and objectives, and recommend strategies to get the most bang from each dollar they earn and spend so they can achieve their life goals.

Marriage and children. Blending two independent financial lives can be complicated and stressful, particularly if there are conflicting financial personalities or there were previous marriages. It's critical to address such issues as insurance, titling of assets and delegating money management duties.

His Noble Spirit Rocks

Dear FP readers, how would you like to read a positive and inspirational blind item for a change? For today, let us deviate from our usual hot and controversial topics and be inspired by this story of someone's rare act of gratefulness and generosity.

A hot young actor who is a reality search alumnus RA is getting some good breaks and blessings. People who know him are happy, and everyone thinks it is the stroke of good karma that he is reaping.

So many years ago, when RA was still a struggling nobody in his hometown, he had a special "friendship" with a gay friend GF in his community. Although RA's family was not exactly poor by standards, this GF helped him a lot in his younger days and was instrumental in RA's getting a degree and becoming a professional. It was not known 'though how long RA kept his friendship with GF.

When he joined showbiz and became popular, RA's world totally changed. From a plain nobody, he became a household name, and he savored it. After all, his climb was not easy - everything was a product of diligence and hard work. From then on, RA was never lacking in projects and was always visible.

Months ago, stories reached RA that GF was having a major health problem and was badly in need of financial assistance. GF had problems in one of his organs that needed immediate treatment. When he learned about it, RA acted fast and without hesitation, dispatched someone to look for GF and brought  his assistance. GF was so overwhelmed beyond words and cried with joy at RA's gesture.

RA's provisions were not limited to GF's health needs, he also provided him with enough capital to continue his beauty business - something that left GF really overwhelmed. To him, it was just too good to be true.

Yes, guys, even in the cruel world we live in, even in gay-straight relationships, even amidst all the cruelty and the walking evil around us -- the world will never lack of good people. If we plant goodness, it is goodness we will reap, and the cycle of positivity continues - if we only believe and strive to do good.

"If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough." - Meister Eckhart
