Great Jazz Albums (IMO) #6
Cannonball Adderley, Somethin' Else (1958). The great saxophone player, Cannonball Adderly, has been described "as one of the progenitors of the swinging, rhythmically robust style of music that became known as hard-bop." On this record he is joined by Miles Davis on trumpet, Hank Jones on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. It doesn't get much better than this. Some have argued that this was more of a Miles Davis date than a Cannonball date but either way, it is one of the great jazz albums of all time. If you like this one, try Know What I Mean (with Bill Evans) and the Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Francisco. [Related posts: Really Great Jazz Albums #1, #2, #3, #4, #5]
