The periodic table of the chemical elements is a tabular method of displaying the chemical elements. It was invented by the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. Mendeleev intended the table to illustrate recurring ("periodic") trends in the properties of the elements.
Fast forward 139 years, and now we have the periodic table in... YouTube format:
Chromium from Periodic Table of Videos.
The Periodic Table of Videos YouTube channel by the University of Nottingham, UK has a video about each element on the periodic table. All 118 of them. The main website with all the videos presented as a table can be found at www.periodicvideos.com.
Since launching the site, the videos have been watched more than 2.4 million times. This is an example of a tremendous global outreach mediated by the free distribution channel that is YouTube.
