JANA MACKEY’S 1100 TORCHES NATIONAL CAMPAIGN BENEFIT
Thursday, November 13, 2008
7:30pm - midnight
Granada Theater
1020 Massachusetts Street
Lawrence, Kansas
This event will include a silent auction, live music and dancing to ignite the Eleven Hundred Torches National Campaign. The Michael Hamm jazz quartet will kick off the evening during the silent auction, and Yuca Roots will play a set later in the evening. The parents of Jana Mackey will speak about the campaign’s mission and goals of inspiring people to serve others. To facilitate these goals, several advocacy organizations will be available during the evening to assist attendees in finding their own cause.
The mission of the Eleven Hundred Torches campaign is to encourage 1100 people to serve others. Inspired by the life of advocate and activist Jana Mackey, and motivated into action by her death, Eleven Hundred Torches was created to inspire others to make a difference in the world. Ultimately, the campaign’s purpose is to document 1100 people and their stories of community service and advocacy.
Eleven Hundred Torches aims to promote advocacy, while fostering volunteerism and civic servitude. The campaign will link advocates to causes and promote a robust network for inspiration, support and strength in numbers. It will also offer opportunities to share updates, seek volunteers, and forge a strong civic network. By mobilizing hundreds of citizens, Eleven Hundred Torches’ goal is to ever so slightly, “change the course of history” and produce a world that is more giving, more caring and more just. Above all else, Jana fought for equality for all. Let this fallen torch ignite the world for social change.
