Whether you are an active individual or part of a lively family, getting into scrapes happens to all of us. But knowing you have an up to date first aid kit to hand could often mean the difference between life and death should the unexpected happen.
No one likes the idea of getting into an accident, but however cautious you are accidents happen. So whether you have a cut finger or one of the family has a fall while playing in the garden, it's good to know that you have a well-stocked, up to date first aid emergency kit to clean, protect and sooth any injuries. Being prepared gives you the peace of mind that you can be effective in any emergency situation.
Store everything together
Like many people, your medical supplies are probably stored in a variety of places around the house kitchen draws, bathroom cabinets or even shelves in the bedroom. However first aid kits, or having one place to keep all your medical items, are a much better idea. For a start you will know that everything is in one safe place; a place that every member of the family will know about should there be an accident. It also means that your individual items will be stored properly, won't get damaged and will make it easier to find the exact item you want in an emergency situation.
Your kit could be a lifesaver!
The best first aid kits are ones that are well equipped with a good variety of supplies, covering injuries that involve bleeding as well as internal injuries such as a broken bone or pulled muscle. A good first aid kit will help you prevent infection, stop any excessive loss of blood, reduce scarring, help prevent an injury turning into a chronic problem and in the extreme, may even help prevent death.
Building the ideal first aid kit.
It is quite easy to buy a ready-made first aid kit in the shops, but it is just as simple to put together your own. It may be best to include some staple items such as plasters in a variety of sizes, sterile gauze dressings including eye dressings and a selection of bandages and safety pins. Add to that some alcohol-free cleansing wipes and adhesive tape, as well as creams that combat skin rashes, insect bites and some antiseptic cream. Items such as tweezers, scissors and a good thermometer are also handy to have available in your kit, as well as a selection of pain killers, decongestant and antihistamine tablets.
Always ensure that first aid kits are well stocked and stored in a cool place that the whole family is aware of. However, do make sure that the kit itself is securely stored out of reach from very small children, to ensure their own safety. Remember to regularly check use by dates, replace items as and when you need to and consider having smaller versions of your first aid kit for both the car and holiday travel.

What Are The Health Risks Associated With Tattoos?
Tattoos are quite popular with people of all ages. From small designs to those that take up large parts of the body, they are an expression of your personality. Some choose to have them for memorial reasons or to honor someone special in their life. Others choose them due to their love of art. Whatever the reason, there are some associated risks with having a tattoo placed on your body. It is important that you are aware of the risks you could face and how you can avoid them if possible. From choosing your tattoo shop to the tattoo location, these tips can help you to be informed of the risks and avoid being a victim yourself.
Tattoo Parlor Choice
You want to make sure that you are familiar with your tattoo parlor. You want to ask questions about their processes, sterilization procedures and for any licenses that need to be had by parlors in your area. You run the risk of infection if you do not know where you are getting your tattoo. Make sure the place is clean and is a reputable tattoo parlor.
Infection
If you have chosen your parlor well, you reduce the risk of infection but there's still a risk. This comes after the tattoo is actually placed on your body. You must take care of the area well and clean it properly. Ask questions of the tattoo shop and find out what precautions you should take. You can also get an infection because of unclean needles in the store. This is why you must know your tattoo artist and location.
Excessive Bleeding
Getting a tattoo is basically little needles poking holes into your skin to apply the ink. There will be bleeding when this happens. There is a risk of excessive bleeding when you have a tattoo applied. If you have a condition where bleeding is a problem you need to tell your artist this. There are also medicines that you may be on that could cause problems with bleeding as well. Be sure you address these concerns with your tattoo artist to insure precautions are taken.
Transmitted Disease
This is another reason you want to know who is doing your tattoo. When you go to a seedy shop to have one done you risk getting a transmitted disease from the tools used on your body. You want to know that the store is clean and has sterilization processes to keep this from happening. When needles are not cleaned or changed from person to person you run a high risk of getting a communicable disease that way. Be sure you ask questions and use a reputable parlor for all your tattoos.
Whether you have kits de tatuaje or you have a parlor do all the work, being safe while getting your tattoo is important. From start to finish do not be afraid to ask questions. Be sure you know who your artist is and that the parlor has all the proper licenses to do what they are doing. Some facts relating to viral lung diseases
Viral diseases are the most commonly known complications that affect the human lungs. Before its entry into the lung, viruses are known to cause infections in the upper respiratory part. Some of the common infections caused by the virus include Pneumonia, Bronchiolitis, and Interstitial Lung Disease. The later emerged viral infections have more potency to cause larger outbreaks of severe respiratory diseases. The infections usually occur during the winter and the viral often spreads via transmission process due to sneezing and coughing.
Bronchiolitis is a kind of inflammation attacking the membrane linings in the bronchioles. Various viruses like respiratory syncytial virus, influenza, or flu virus are involved for carrying out this kind of inflammation. This type of disorder is generally seen in young children and infants. Congesting nose is the starting associated symptoms that can further proceed to affect the lungs and cause symptoms of bronchiolitis. The symptoms linked to this disorder is felt in the form of croaky cough, breathing rapidly, wheezing, low levels of oxygen in the blood stream, retractions, and hypoaxia. The complication of illness with this disorder will last for one to two days, and in severe cases the extending period could be up to 14 days.
Pneumonia is yet another serious ailment included in the same category of viral infection and is triggered by infectious virus. This is linked to the abnormal inflammation disorder of the lung. However, infections in the lung can creep up due to innumerous reasons including fungi or parasites, bacterial infections, chemical or physical injury to the lungs and many more. However, viral infection has a great impact on the lungs and comes on the top list. Viral pneumonia is milder when compared to the bacterial infection. The symptoms attached with it include cough accompanying phlegm, chills and fevers. It also shows the symptoms through breathing shortness, rapid breathing, pleurisy, retractions, fatigue and muscle aches.
Viral Pneumonia along with the bacteria will take the problem further making it even more severe. This ultimately proceeds further to bring about the accumulation of fluids that could be hazardous. The accumulated fluid should be drained out through the means of surgery. We all know that pneumonia is a leading cause of death in children under the age of five. The blood in the sputum or discoloration is seen with the sufferers of pneumonia. Chest pain is another syndrome observed in patients with the attack of pneumonia. The other associated signals with it include headache, muscle pain, worsening cough, and many more.
Interstitial lung disease is known to attack interstitium area of the lungs. It is associated with the burning sensations taking place in the supportive tissues amidst of air sacs. The kind of complication leads to scarring process of the tissues thereby greatly affecting the supply of oxygen into the blood.

Do Tattoos Increase Your Risk Of Cancer?
Tattoos have become increasingly popular over the last decade, as more and more people choose to have important symbols or meaningful images or words tattooed on them, but do they increase the risk of health problems, including cancer?
Tattoos and skin cancer
The case for
Tattoos have been linked to an increased risk of infection as a result of breaking the skin, but some health experts believe that they also increase the risk of skin cancer. Dr DJS Tula, a consultant cosmetic surgeon at the BLK Hospital in Delhi, India, said that tattoos can increase the risk of blood-borne infections, including hepatitis B and C and HIV, as well as types of skin cancer including squamous cell, melanoma and carcinoma. Dr Tula added that having a tattoo does not mean that you are going to get skin cancer, but the risk is elevated because of the ink used to create the design.
Dr Tula also added that tattoos should never been done close to moles because they make it difficult for people to spot changes in the appearance of the mole, which are a common symptom of skin cancer.
Studies published in the USA have also prompted an investigation into the chemical make-up of tattoo ink by the US Food and Drug Administration. Studies showed that some of the chemicals, including black ink benzo(a)pyrene, have been found to cause skin cancer during animal testing.
The case against
In contrast, Dr Ariel Ostad, a dermatologist and surgeon from New York, said that skin experts have been researching the impact of tattoos on the skin for several years and there is no evidence to suggest that tattoos increase the risk of skin cancer. Research involving people who have the condition has not uncovered greater prevalence of skin cancer among people with tattoos and there is also no evidence to suggest that having a tattoo after receiving treatment for skin cancer increase the risk of relapse.
Dr Ostad did support Dr Tula's comments about avoiding tattoos close to moles, stating that tattoos can mask the visible changes in the skin, which may prevent skin cancer from being diagnosed early. Early diagnosis increases survival rates significantly. Dr Ostad's advice was to leave a suitable gap around any moles to ensure that any changes are clearly visible and can be identified without any trouble.
Risk factors for skin cancer
The most important risk factor for skin cancer is sun exposure. Research also suggests that people who have fair skin have a higher risk. If you are going outside, apply sun cream (if you have fair skin that burns easily use a high factor), wear a sun hat and avoid the hottest part of the day (between 11am and 3pm). Avoid using sun beds and tanning lamps, as these use powerful UV rays and increase your risk. If you want a healthy golden glow, use self-tanning products.
Caring for tattooed skin
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, newly tattooed skin is very sensitive and you should take extra care when bathing and going out in the sun. It is also important to keep an eye on your skin and to seek medical help if you notice irritation and rashes around the tattoo. The AAD also recommended avoiding moles when choosing a location for the new tattoo and seeing a dermatologist if you notice any changes in the skin around the tattoo.
The relationship between tattoos and skin cancer is unclear. Some experts believe that tattoo ink can increase one’s risk of the condition but then others say that there is no link Further research in this area is being carried out and new evidence may become available in the coming months or years to either refute or support the claim that tattoos increase the risk of cancer.

Syphilis epidemic rising in the Canada and U.S.
The resurgence of syphilis has risen dramatically over the past 20 years in the United States and Canada --- from 177 cases in 1993 to 1,750 cases in 2010. It is temporarily shutting down the porn industry in Southern California.
Adult Production Health & Safety Services (APHSS) sounded the alarm about "recent unsubstantiated rumors of syphilis among adult performers." The usual annual testing for syphilis is in September, but because of the alarm the agency opened up their semi-annual syphilis testing immediately.
Other sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, are also on the rise. According to Huffington Post, "Syphilis infection rates jumped by 18 percent from 2010 to 2011, and there was also a five percent increase in chlamydia and 1.5 percent increase in gonorrhea cases." And truthfully, the syphilis outbreak cluster among California porn performs is not surprising because of their business. But sexually transmitted diseases are spreading on a worldwide basis --- with Canada and the United States no exceptions.
APHSS has since called for a temporary moratorium on adult film production until all performers get tested for syphilis, and the non-profit AIDS Healthcare Foundation is also expected to hold a news conference Monday morning in response to the possible outbreak.
"I think it's just a general indicator of what's happening in terms of sexual activity," said Dr. Howard Njoo of the Public Health Agency of Canada, director general of PHAC's Centre for Communicable Diseases and Infection Control. The majority of syphilis cases are among men, accounting for 90.5 percent of all reported cases in 2010. But according to Njoo, the dynamics of the disease are different from other STDs. Gonorrhea and chlamydia are attacking the younger people while syphilis is attacking the older ones. People who are age 30 and older are accounting for approximately 73 per cent of all the reported syphilis cases in 2010. Huffington Post reports that, "Syphilis is a bacterial STD that initially manifests itself in sores or sometimes presents no symptoms. If the infection isn't treated immediately, people who have syphilis can go on to suffer rashes and lesions, hair loss and flu-like symptoms like muscle aches, fevers, sore throats and fatigue. Without treatment, syphilis could last for years and go on to damage internal organs and cause stillbirths. If caught early, the infection is easily treated with antibiotics such as penicillin."

Explaining Inverted Nipple Correction - Strategies, Treatment and Complications
Inverted nipple correction is a surgical procedure that corrects flat or turned in nipples. Inverted nipples may appear flat or have a depression in the form of a slit or a hole instead of a protruding nipple. They are caused by tight or short ligaments in the nipples that keep them from protruding naturally. Severely inverted nipples often cause problems with latching on during breastfeeding as well as emotional problems associated with the appearance and function of the nipples.
Inverted nipples are generally categorised into three types or grades, and the grade of inverted nipple will determine the surgical procedure required to correct the condition. The grades are:
Grade 1 - The inverted nipple will protrude with stimulation or exposure to cold and will remain so for some time. Breastfeeding is unaffected.
Grade 2 - The inverted nipple will protrude with great difficulty but never remains so. Breastfeeding may be possible, but is not always.
Grade 3 - The inverted nipple does not protrude for any reason. The milk ducts may be restricted, causing problems with breastfeeding, and the woman may suffer from rashes or infections because of the inability to exercise proper nipple hygiene.
Procedure
In general, inverted nipple correction is done as an outpatient procedure using a local anesthetic. However, the manner of the cosmetic surgery will greatly depend on the exact condition of the inverted nipple. Although unusual, the milk ducts may need to be severed in order to allow the nipple to protrude properly. Normally, small holes are made rather than one single incision. Sutures are used to hold the nipple in place while it heals. A light dressing is placed over the nipple. The surgery itself will last approximately 30 minutes.
Recovery
Shortly after surgery, patients can walk around and do light activities that don't require heavy lifting or pushing against the chest. Hard or strenuous tasks should be avoided for seven to ten days after the procedure. The majority of patients return to work three or four days after surgery. Recovery normally takes one to two weeks. Follow up appointments are necessary to ensure that the healing process is going well.
For the first few days after the surgery, the patient will likely be sore and possibly sleepy. Some swelling and bruising are normal and should not be a cause for worry or concern. The doctor will prescribe medication to help ease the pain and soreness. Medications should be taken as directed for the best results.
The dressing needs to be kept dry for two weeks, after which the nipple will be checked to ensure that everything is healing correctly. The area will also be cleansed gently before the patient is released.
Because the surgery utilises small holes rather than an incision, any scarring should be nearly invisible. The holes heal quickly and tend to fade into the nipple.
Complications
Complications with inverted nipple correction are rare. If the milk ducts must be cut, breastfeeding will likely no longer be an option.
Because it is a surgery, infection is possible but extremely rare. If an infection does occur, it must be treated immediately.
