Between Honor and Greed

What was once unheard of has now become part of the system among network, manager and talent. At the very least, this maybe classified as inside corruption with the talents getting the short end of the deal.

Top network executive NE is relentless in making extra, big bucks at the expense of its many talents. NE squeezes every possible opportunity to milk talents at all cost. NE's usual connections are the talent managers TM of these stars.  

First, NE talks to the TM’s to raise the talent fees TF of his stars by 15% more so that there would be room for NE's commissions which is exactly that - the padded 15%.  NE tells TM's that the extra 15% is the additional amount they would charge that will be shouldered by the clients/ producers for all the  projects of the talents. It really sounds so off for NE to be doing this owing to the image that the network projects.  

Although extremely bothered, some TM’s take it blindly, citing survival as the main reason. But not so for this noted  talent manager NTM who although beholden to NE for the projects given to his talents, is feeling the pinch and consequence of this ‘under-the-table’  transaction. Certainly such is not for the best interest and is counter-productive for his stars as clients will look elsewhere to get  better deals. 

It is for this reason that NTM wanted to move out his major talent MT to a rival network RN. He had some press release about the matter and wanted to telegraph his strong sentiments to NE that the deal will never be acceptable to him.

Anent all this, will NTM finally make good his word to transfer his other talents elsewhere? When will NE realize that a lasting legacy is far more important than everything all those 15% can buy?

Revealing Thoughts of Talent Manager Towards the Actress

Sometime ago, talent manager (TM) shocked the production people of a talk show where she was a major guest. During the break, TM was in the dressing room freshening up when she was overheard speaking to someone over the phone.

TM was assumed to be talking to someone asking if one of her talents (OT) could play the villainess role opposite non-singer actress (NA). Although nothing that TM does could still shock people, her feisty reply caught the attention of people nearby. TM began calmly, and then burst into “What? You expect OT to play contravida to NA??? P****g i***g yun!” Then, in a more peeved tone, TM said, “OT has been with your network for some time, and you still cannot give her the stardom she deserves!”

Come to think of it, OT has indeed been with the network for a time ever since she left her original stable. OT has tried doing the range of roles, and even tried following the steps of a sibling by posing in a magazine. Still, she has been relegated to doing supporting roles, and usually she does play a good villain. Meanwhile, NA has been known to have turned down a role that practically made the career of another actress (AA) a household name. At that time, NA was supposed to star with a franchise actor (FA) of the network. NA turned down that role because she said she was prioritizing her studies. Because of that, AA and FA rose to fame, and AA now miles ahead in celebrity status than NA.

We can only speculate why TM labelled NA that way. Was it because NA seems to be having successive relationships? While maintaining her good girl image, the latest is that NA is now happily involved with a scion of a famous showbiz clan.

Perhaps, OT can learn a thing or two from respected American actor, Sidney Poitier, “A good deed here, a good deed there, a good thought here, a good comment there, all added up to my career in one way or another.”

The Shocking Revelation

A Talent Manager TM and its Valued Talent VT, particularly VT's camp VTC, had one big feud last year. VTC had misgivings on TM's questionable dealings pertaining to VT's projects. VTC belatedly realized that TM had been defrauding them of VT's rightful income for years since he got to manage VT.

Other management terms and conditions were likewise unfavorable to VT from the very beginning. But since VT and VTC did not know any better then, they just went with it and inked that contract with TM.

Years later, VTC got wind of the enormous discrepancy in VT's real income versus the figures declared to them by TM. VTC confronted him right away. But it seemed that there was news blackout because nothing regarding the controversial matter was heard of since.

Fast forward to recent events -- TM, VT and VTC were on a meeting discussing about VT's expiration of management contract. Allegedly, VT and VTC were not keen on renewing anymore, for obvious reasons. As the meeting progressed, TM finally admitted to VTC and VT his guilt over the discrepancies he did in the past that placed VT at a great financial disadvantage. VT and VTC were shocked at the revelation. But knowing how shrewed TM can be, he was able to soften the blow to both VT and VTC.

How? By giving them peace offering.
What kind of peace offering? Cash.
How much? Close to Php 5Million, for all these years.
In exchange for? Renewal of management contract, at least for a year.

Confronting the Inevitable: Territorial Manager vs. Itchy Actress

When territorial manager (TM) bumped into Playful Actress (PA) along the corridor of the room of his prized talent (PT), TM stopped and confronted PA. TM told PA to stop involving herself in the life of PT as PT is already doing well. Caught unaware, PA said she and PT were just good friends, etc. Of course, TM did not buy the “friendship” litany. After all, PA and PT were once lovers, and PA has been quite vocal about her past affair with the actor.

TM, still peeved over the we-are-just-friends excuse, looked at PA, and said, “If you feel the itch, go find someone else to do the scratching, not my boy!” In diva fashion, TM turned his back and walked away from PA.

Now, another source claimed that PA and PT were indeed sharing a room during that same event, and that PA has ''hooked up'' with PT after breaking up with her most recent boyfriend. Well, don’t look now! Despite her projects and PT on one side, PA still has time to flirt with another actor from a different network. Is PA keeping “lovers” or "flings'' in different networks? Will TM succeed in keeping PA away from PT?

How Deep is Your Love?

When versatile actor (VA) and his manager (HM) went on vacation, HM cleared the schedule of VA of tapings, guestings, or any mall/provincial show. VA, one of the prized actors of his network, has continuously had a hectic schedule with his soaps coming one after the other. Despite his extremely busy schedule, VA still managed to have girlfriends who have given him a roller coaster ride of emotions and controversies.

At this time, VA had a girlfriend (GF), who is also one of the more reliable talents of the network. Of course, it would be everyone’s assumption that their free time would be devoted to each other. Moreover, since VA had a free schedule, it was naturally assumed that he would really be spending quality time with GF as they were still in the early stage of their relationship. Wrong! In the course of fixing the schedule of VA, HM also made sure that GF was busy with the taping of her own soap. Hence, the vacation was the “alone time” of VA and HM.

As they went on tour, VA would snap a photo or two and send it to his social media account. However, none of these photos showed both of them together. Of all his talents, it seems that HM has the deepest affection for VA. When the career of VA was going nowhere, HM helped him become a prized talent, and VA obtained recognition for his acting because of his good roles in various projects. Reciprocating this care from HM, VA had dutifully followed his advice even if it meant sacrificing his love life, including the latest, GF.

Now, VA is keeping his mouth shut regarding anything that has to do with GF. GF, meanwhile, has refused to speak about the incident as well. Naturally, HM would never speak on this matter as any comment on his part might strengthen the speculation that he has a stronger hold on VA than merely being a manager. How deep is his hold on VA anyway?

Caught Their Piercingly Terrifying Rendezvous

Generous talent manager GM is very giving to his talents - to his male wards especially. For people who know him, GM's generosity knows no limits as long as his wards are obedient and cooperative. As much as he can, he makes sure they are comfortable and well provided for.

Handsome actor HA is GM's latest ward in his large stable. HA is promising and quite talented, too. Since he is fairly new in the business, GM has provided him with free dwelling until such time that HA can provide for his own.

One day, GM went to visit HA's place to check on him and talk about some forthcoming projects. GM was knocking on the door but no one was responding. He repeatedly knocked but still no one answered. And since he had the key to the condo unit, he opened the door himself.

Lo and behold! When he checked out the bedroom, he was stunned with what he saw. HA was with a relatively handsome designer GD in a very uncompromising situation. Although both were fully clothed, their inverted look was something that sent shivers down GM's spine. For the longest time, he was frozen and speechless.

He didn't see it coming. He thought he already knew everything about HA. GM never knew that he would be in for that big surprise. HA and GD together? Showbiz and fashion crossover, again?

What just happened is no longer news in the entertainment industry where odd couples/combinations can beautifully jell and blend together, indeed.

When playboy actor (PA) admitted that he and his former leading lady (FL) were an item, kibitzers predicted they would not last long. After all, PA has had several girlfriends and he just could not keep them.
However, it seems that FL was different. They were seen together and had their private escapades as well. Both seemed genuinely happy. Then, after the admission of the relationship, PA and FL kept a low profile.

Now, barely a year after, PA came out and admitted that their relationship is over. Yet, he refused to divulge the reason.Typically, all fingers pointed to the manager as the cause of the breakup. So, what was the cause of the breakup?

Allegedly, PA asked his manager if he could marry FL. The manager said marriage would result in career suicide. Then, here’s the punch line – the manager will let go of PA if he defies him and continues with his
marriage plans. Obviously, PA loves his career and values his manager more than FL. Thus, it was goodbye to her.

FL might be nursing a broken heart at this moment, but at the very least, she saw the true nature of PA early in their relationship. Could she have survived being second or third priority in FL’s list? She’s young, pretty, and talented, and she even finished school. Hopefully, she could move on soon and find a better man than
PA.

For those who are not familiar with the topic, I am giving you this little piece of information aka backgrounder so that you will be able to fathom this story I am about to share with you today.

For the last few decades, gay relationships in the country have been more open and prominent amongst all social class than ever before. In showbiz and entertainment community, the practice is widely accepted maybe and partly because the industry is mostly dominated and ran by people of the 3rd 'gender' - top honchos, directors, producers, designers, talent managers, dancers, and the list goes on.

This talent manager TM has a number of desirable male stars under his stable. Gay as he is, it is natural that TM gets attracted to whoever catches his fancy. In this case, he got attracted to his own star, a talented Young Heartthrob YH. Whether or not he likes or accepts it, YH is a consenting adult towards TM's advances.

In one of their trysts, TM was the top one and YH was bottom. TM's size must have been too overwhelming for YH's bottom that it bled from TM's penetration. The bleeding sent jitters to TM and YH. Both were alarmed that TM called a doctor for treatment. YH spent considerable amount of time to get healed.

YH's father was so outraged when he learned what happened. He confronted TM, but both he and YH denied everything. But to be safe, and to keep the father from doing anything that can ruin his name, TM allegedly decided to do what was wisest at that point: silence him through a sizable settlement.

Mother versus Manager

Sometime ago, a talent manager (TM) sent word to the management of a network regarding the frequent visits of a young actress (YA) to the pad of his ward, a versatile actor (VA). It seemed that TM got worried because YA would drop by the unit at wee hours of the morning or would spend the night with VA in his locked room. At other times, they would go to gimmicks.TM was concerned because the practice was affecting the career of VA. He had tapings in the mornings and TM did not want VA to appear tired or haggard when he did his big scenes. The other side of this story was that TM could not directly confront YA that she was already disturbing VA and the risk was high that he might get her pregnant.

When the mother of YA (MY) got wind of the request, she took it calmly and said she was fine with the behavior of her daughter. However, when MY and TM found themselves together in an event, MY gave TM a piece of her mind in the presence of other managers. First, she said there was nothing wrong because YA and VA were both single. Therefore, there was no need for that information to be sent to the network. Second, as a mother she trusted that her daughter would not engage in scandalous behavior, and that no one had the right to tell her what to do with her daughter. (Looking back, YA did not grow up with MY because she left YA to a family member when she was little. MY went abroad to work, where she found love. However, when she had enough of her stint abroad, MY came home and made up for the lost times with her daughter.)

TM kept calm and simply allowed MY to rant. However, the last line of MY almost infuriated him. MY said that perhaps the reason why TM approached the management was that he had another agenda with VA. The reason for such a statement was that VA actually lived in the same pad where TM also stayed. As a talent manager, he allowed VA to stay with him until VA was ready to have his own place.

The latest is that YA and VA have gone separate ways. YA already found a new love in the same network where VA works. VA has earned praises for his characterizations of the diverse roles he played in movies and teleseryes. Meanwhile, MY is enjoying a resurgence of her career and showing to the public she can be a very good actress regardless of the genre. As for TM, he still handles the careers of the most good-looking and talented set of actors.

Managing Very Challenging Behavior

The owner of this certain brand met up with the manager of this actress/host to discuss the possibility of getting the actress as the brand's ambassadress. The manager was charging the owner close to two million pesos for the actress's professional fee. On top of that, she was asking for another one million pesos worth of gift certificate for her own personal use. The owner got turned off with what she heard so she still told the manager to give her a week to think it over.

After that particular meeting, the manager called the owner almost everyday to follow up on her decision. She even pressured her by saying that a competing brand is also interested to get the actress as its endorser. When the owner heard this, she politely told the manager to entertain the other brand instead because she is still undecided.

A few months later, the owner was surprised to receive a phone call from the manager. She told the owner that the actress is available again since the other brand decided to get another actress. Despite the fact that the manager was offering the actress to the owner at a lower price this time around, she turned down the offer immediately because she did not want to deal with this manager anymore.
