May - December Love: Mystica, 45, Marries 23 - year old Kid

One of the most colorful characters in show business just added new color into her life.

Singer-actress Mystica, 45, married 23-year-old actor-model Kid Lopez, whose career she is managing, in civil rites at the Aberdeen Court, Great Eastern Hotel on Monday.

Lately, Mystica has been managing a stable of talents, including a girl group called the Mystic Angels and a boy band called the Mysticos. Kid Lopez, whose real name is Edwin Nuas, is among her new talents.

The 22-year age gap separating the bride and groom has raised many eyebrows, considering that Mystica has a 26-year-old son from a previous relationship.

But true to her penchant for controversy, the singer known for doing splits is unfazed.
“With that gap na half my age I never expect I’d fall in love with someone like him. It was really fate, tadhana,” said the woman whose real name is Ruby Rose Villanueva.

“Minsan lang po ito sa buhay namin. Kahit ano na po sabihin nila we dont really care. What matters is we are together and both happy!” she added.

How did they fall for each other?

Mystica admitted that as manager and talent, their relationship dynamic started as one of mother and son. But one night it developed into something less innocent, according to Kid.

“Uuwi na po sana ako nun. Hindi ako nagpaalam ng personal, sa Facebook lang. Tapos, hindi po niya ako pinauwi. Sabi niya wala siyang kasama sa kwarto,” he said with a laugh.

“That was a joke!” Mystica said, with a bigger laugh.

Now that they are husband and wife, are they planning to have a baby soon, assuming that she would still be able to conceive at her age?

“It would be so unfair to him na hindi ko siya mabigyan ng anak, so kung ilan ang darating go tayo riyan,” she quipped.

During their television guestings last year, both Shamcey Supsup and her low-key  boyfriend had made known their plans to get married in 2013.

In several interviews, Supsup said she had already found the perfect man to spend the rest of her life with. She said she knew that Lloyd was the right guy  the first time she met him on her birthday before the Binibining Pilipinas pageant two years ago.

She revealed that everything went so fast. Both developed romantic feelings for each other within a week of first meeting. And became a couple after a month of courtship.

Shamcey said she prayed hard for a boyfriend, even set such high standards. And God answered her. She says Lloyd who keeps her grounded is her first boyfriend. Shamcey is now 26.

Bb. Pilipinas Candidate Theresa Fenger Backs Out Due to Racy Photos

Binibining Pilipinas candidate #35 Theresa Fenger voluntarily backed out from the pageant due to alleged racy photos from FHM men's magazine and other magazines.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., enforces a rule that any candidate who has posed for sexy magazines will be automatically disqualified.

It looks like Ms. Fenger belatedly came to know about the ruling thus realized her indiscretion. This prompted her to withdraw voluntarily from the the competition after weeks of participation in the pre-coronation activities. Incidentally, Ms. Fenger was also the female winner in the Century Tuna Superbods 2009.

Binibining Pilipinas has not yet released an official statement as of this publication. However their website no longer includes the name of  Theresa Fenger on the roster of Binibining Pilipinas 2013 candidates.

If we recall, former Binibini candidate, Sandra Seifert, was also disqualified for posing for FHM magazine. But she recovered from that and joined Miss Philippines Earth 2009 and eventually won. She further vindicated herself by placing Miss Earth-Air 1st Runner-up in the Miss Earth Pageant.

Meanwhile, model KC Gonzalez Cajandig from General Santos City was chosen to replace Ms. Fenger.

Globe Announces 4-day Service Disruption with IT Upgrade

MANILA - Bad news for Globe Telecom Inc subscribers, as the Ayala-led telco on Thursday announced "minimal" service disruptions at the start of next month.

In a letter to subscribers, Globe president Ernest Cu said the disruption, which would happen March 2-5, would be caused by the first phase of the telco's IT modernization.

"As with most upgrades of this scale, we are spending significant effort to minimize any impact on you, so any impact will be small and temporary. During this period, you will still be able to call, text and browse," the letter read.

Among the issues that Globe subscribers would encounter during the four-day period of disruption are the following:

- For Globe postpaid and Tattoo postpaid, subscribers will be unable to register with promos, except for all roaming promos, which will remain available even during the transition period;

- The first bill after migration will be delayed by three weeks, but the payment due dates will be adjusted accordingly;

- The bill will undergo changes depending on the cut-off date and the time Globe completes transition to the new system, with the nature of the changes to be explained as a subscriber receives the notice; and

- For Globe prepaid, Touch Mobile, Tattoo prepaid and Tattoo@Home, the disruption would be "minimal," as subscribers would continue to enjoy the same service levels.

The company will spend $90 million to upgrade its IT system. This would be on top of the $700-million network modernization, which Globe expects to complete next month.

The telco earlier said 90 percent of its network modernization is complete. At end-December, Globe had 33.12 million mobile phone subscribers and 1.3 million broadband subscribers.

Sarah G Live and Another Sunday Show to be Axed Soon

Two Sunday shows from ABS-CBN are set to bid adieu very soon. One is a musical variety show and the other one is another Sunday show.

The musical variety show Sarah G Live hosted by singer actress Sarah Geronimo will air its final episode this Sunday, a year after it debuted on television. Allegedly, the decision was reached following reports that there was big decline in ticket sales of Sarah's provincial concerts. Obviously and understandably since SG is seen doing the same thing on television anyway. The show's staff had long prepared themselves for the eventual demise of the show which they expected to be on February 17 yet. What took them by surprise last week was when it was announced to them that the show will end prematurely and will have it's final episode this coming weekend already.

Fans and followers of Sarah often hunger for her to appear in movies and or television sitcoms which had not been happening for quite a long time. SG's management had been criticized for obviously forgetting that Sarah is not just singer but an actress, too. Allegedly, SG's bosses succumbed to the pressure and gave in.

On the other hand, another Sunday show from the same network is now on the chopping board. Can you guess which one is waiting to be axed soon? Everyone will have a big shock - that's for sure!

Oprah Winfrey Slapped with Sex Discrimination Suit

Oprah Winfrey does not look out for her own ... at least that's what is alleged in a new lawsuit in which a female exec at OWN claims she lost her job because she got knocked up.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday, Carolyn Hommel claims she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network. Hommel claims she was told she was on-track to become a VP, but says things took a sudden turn when she became pregnant.

According to Hommel ... her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave. Hommel claims she was let go ONE MONTH after giving birth and told to re-apply for the VP gig ... only to be passed over.

Furthermore, Hommel claims her boss, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior' and therefore not a candidate for the new vice president position."

Hommel allegees her dismissal was a direct result of her becoming pregnant and requiring a medical leave.

TV5's Wowowillie and Its Stressful Debut

The much-vaunted  TV5's first-ever noontime show, Wowowillie starring its main host, the unstoppable Willie Revillame kicked off today with a strong 360-dancer, 20-minute opening number. Quite impressive in numbers. But inspite of the big preparations, it seemed obvious like everything was rushed for the show.

As Willie and his hosts were chatting on camera, the stage suddenly went dark, then black. Lights failed to come back for a few seconds, and production had no choice but to cue for a commercial. And that suffering would turn out to be a painful 15-minute technical glitch from 12:50 to 1:05 pm.

It was "the show must go on" after that, as Willie came back on cam with his hosts and made light  of the technical problem in his usual fun and bubbly self.  As this article is being typed, the show has suffered its 3rd blackout, and had to go on commercial again. But you can't deny the audience's feelings and apprehension as small whispers, ooohhhs and ahhhsss were heard on the air.

What does this scenario foretell? But still, for all it's worth, TV5 with or without its controversial host deserves a fair share of the lucrative noontime show market.

Gerald Anderson and Maricel Soriano - Who will be In or Out?

Taping for a soon-to-be released teleserye had a major conflict between two of its actors long before it sees air on the boob tube.

"Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin" lead stars Gerald Anderson and Maricel Soriano had problems on the set during the taping of the said teleserye last week. On their scene together, it was alleged that Gerald had a hard time getting the right acting required of him by the director. As a consequence, said scene had to be re-shoot over and over again, something that pissed off  Maricel. The multi-awarded actress, couldn't help herself and blew her top. She allegedly shouted at her co-star, blaming Gerald for the delays. She was so emotional that she walked out of the set soon after. Gerald tried to pacify her and made amends but the actress was inconsolable. She left, making Gerald feel so dejected and disheartened. There are talks that the actor now refuses to do the project with her.

As of this writing, there is no final word yet from ABS-CBN as to the fate of one of their newest and most- awaited teleseryes this January.

Both Gerald and Maricel are contract stars of ABS-CBN, with Gerald under Star Magic and Maricel with Viva management.

Inquirer Entertainment: Filipino columnist’s interview with Anne Hathaway draws mixed reactions online

MANILA, Philippines—Like wildfire, the recent “controversial” interview of Filipino entertainment editor-journalist Ricky Lo with “Les Miserables” female lead, Anne Hathaway that has been circulating on social networking sites drew mixed reactions among netizens and local celebrities.

Though Hathaway was seen smiling and laughing all throughout, she appeared irritated by a few questions of the veteran show-biz columnist.

Lo asked how did she lose weight for the role and gain it back again, Hathaway declined to answer, saying it’s something personal.

Hathaway plays Fantine, the ill-fated character of a poor, pretty innocent woman who becomes a prostitute.

Hathaway’s mother Kathleen Ann “Kate” McCauley played the role in the original “Les Miserables” cast that was toured in the United States. Hathaway cited in several interviews how she learned a lot from her mom.

Lo asked if Hathaway got some pointers from her mother, she answered with a straight “No.”

When Lo asked her how she was able to play the role of a poor woman when she is “perceived to have lived a life of luxury and privilege,” Hathaway declined again, citing it’s “very personal.”

The role was also played by Lea Salonga in 2010 for the 25th Anniversary of “Les Miserables”.

In the interview, Lo showed an SMS from Salonga that apparently said something about Salonga’s eagerness to see the movie. Hathaway reacted positively, seemingly flattered and was all smiles saying, “I adore her.”

But when Lo asked for a message to Salonga, “who is looking forward to meet you in person” Hathaway declined again, saying, “We’ve already talk about that.”

At the end of the more than four-minute interview, Lo asked Hathaway to invite her Filipino fans to see the movie.
The still-smiling Hathaway said, “Why don’t you invite them, they’d rather hear it from you.”

While many netizens lambast Lo for what they described as a rather “disgraceful interview” with general questions that seemed more appropriate to lesser-known celebrities, Lo’s colleagues in the industry defended him, citing his long stint in entertainment journalism.

Lo has been entertainment editor and columnist of a national newspaper for decades. He is also co-host of “Startalk,” a Saturday entertainment talk show on GMA7, on which his live interviews are usually shown.

Jim Paredes in a Facebook thread described the interview as “a big cultural gap.”

Ruffa Gutierrez in her Twitter account posted the link, saying “She (Hathaway) suddenly switched to ‘bitchiness’.”

A theater actor posted: “When you interview an actor, most especially someone really big, you ask about the craft, the production process. Don’t ask personal questions, unless you are Oprah. Avoid intrigues. And most especially, it is not a time to flaunt who you ‘know’ and compare them with the subject. Otherwise, the interview will turn out bad. Really bad. Even embarrassing.”

Earlier links to the said interview have been deleted though more have been posted again with some parodies highlighting Lo’s “gaffes.”
