San Diego Mom's Night Out 1 Year Anniversary Party

It is a rare occasion that my Mom friends and I get a chance to go out together.  We are all so busy with work and family life. When I heard about San Diego Mom's Night Out I couldn't pass up the opportunity at spending a few hours with my sisters and friends. Hubby was all for it so I began inviting the ladies closest to me: my sister & sister in laws.  Sadly, not everyone could make it. Those of us that were able to go had a wonderful time. We enjoyed food (sushi, sliders, tray passed hors d'oeuvres, dessert), drinks, entertainment, and various spa services!  I was in such a rush to get to the event that I had forgotten to grab my camera on the way out.  Good thing for my friends who were able to snap a few photos and for Memories Event Photography & Photobooth!

There were some wonderful prizes that were raffled off.  I wasn't a lucky winner but my friend Melanie won 4 tickets to Peter Pan!  Another highlight was getting to meet a few online friends in person for the first time!

Wonderful memories from our SD Mom's Night Out experience!  My friends and I were all first-timers!  But I have a feeling that we will be back!  In larger numbers no doubt!

The party was held poolside at the Kin Spa at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego which was the perfect venue.

Human Brain Analysis - Man vs. Woman

1. MULTI-TASKING
Women - Multiple process
Womens brains designed to concentrate multiple task at a time.
Women can Watch a TV and Talk over phone and cook.
Men - Single Process
Mens brains designed to concentrate only one work at a time. Men can not watch TV and talk over the phone at the same time. they stop the TV while Talking. They can either watch TV or talk over the phone or cook.

2. LANGUAGE
Women can easily learn many languages. But can not find solutions to problems. Men can not easily learn languages, they can easily solve problems. That's why in average a 3 years old girl has three times higher vocabulary than a 3 yeard old boy.

3. ANALYTICAL SKILLS
Mens brains has a lot of space for handling the analytical process. They can analyze and find the solution for a process and design a map of a building easily. But If a complex map is viewed by women, they can not understand it. Women can not understand the details of a map easily, For them it is just a dump of lines on a paper.

4. CAR DRIVING.
While driving a car, mans analytical spaces are used in his brain. He can drive a car fastly. If he sees an object at long distance, immediately his brain classifies the object (bus or van or car) direction and speed of the object and he drives accordingly. Where woman take a long time to recognize the object direction/ speed. Mans single process mind stops the audio in the car (if any), then concentrates only on driving.

5. LYING
When men lie to women face to face, they get caught easily. Womans super natural brain observes facial expression 70%, body language 20% and words coming from the mouth 10%. Mens brain does not have this. Women easily lie to men face to face.
So guys, do not lie face to face.

6. PROBLEMS SOLVING
If a man have a lot of problems, his brain clearly classifies the problems and puts them in individual rooms in the brain and then finds the solution one by one. You can see many guys looking at the sky for a long time. If a woman has a lot of problems, her brain can not classify the problems. she wants some one to hear that. After telling everything to a person she goes happily to bed. She does not worry about the problems being solved or not.

7. WHAT THEY WANT
Men want status, success, solutions, big process, etc... But Women want relationship, friends, family, etc...

8. UNHAPPINESS
If women are unhappy with their relations, they can not concentrate on their work. If men are unhappy with their work, they can not concentrate on the relations.

9. SPEECH
Women use indirect language in speech. But Men use direct language.

10. HANDLING EMOTION
Women talk a lot without thinking. Men act a lot without thinking.

Women's History Month: Heartache

Today's Women's History Tidbit:

My heart's been aching the last few days.

First came the news that the genius Mikhaela B. Reid was retiring from political cartoons. Why? She lists all her reasons and yes the market for political cartooning sucks, she's tired, she's expecting a baby (but she admits she's still be retiring even if lil M wasn't on the way) and she's burnt. I get that. TOTALLY. But I still cried when I read her good-bye on her blog. Part of it is the very real fact that we don't have a mechanism to fully support creative folks like her, thus they can either skimp together a meager living or work themselves to the bone 24/7 to get thru the "real job" and the "creative job." I cried because while the baby isn't the primary reason, there is the real fact that babies just slow you down. They just do. How fast you get pull out of the pit stop depends on many factors. Then I cried for the burnout. Mikhaela mentioned that one reason she hasn't retired earlier is that she felt pressure to represent for women in her industry. I so get that. I ponder that a lot actually and not just about myself.

Mikhaela: I wish you much love and luck as you complete your journey into mamahood. Relax and recover with your lil one. Let time heal your creative soul. I'm sure you'll be back creating things whether it is a cartoon or a super cute dress.


Today I cried again. This time for my friend Susan aka WhyMommy. Cancer...again. I saw her at Blogher 2009 at a party and was able to introduce her to Cinnamon. "She's a rocket scientist!" Seriously, I love bragging that I have a rocket scientist as a friend. Then she let me know that we had a student in common. Someone from my campus was interning in her neck of the woods. That student was forever changed by Susan. So just from a professional stand point, she's awesome. But the fact that she's battled and kicked cancer's ass before, shared her journey with us as a way to bring awareness to the rare form of breast cancer she was diagnosed with a few years ago. And now cancer is back. Fuck.

Susan: I don't know what I can say that you haven't heard before. Cancer wasn't in my job description when I signed up to help keep women in science, but I guess it goes with the territory, eh? You say you need, we need more research? That's where I will help. I like to talk pre-meds out of medical school by pointing them to areas in the medical science pipeline where they can be the ones making the discoveries, doing the basic research so that we never have to entertain the thought of losing one more friend. And if they still decide to go to medical school, I'll help to make them see they need to treat the whole person, not just the disease. No matter what, you'll be part of my pitch.
