The State of Dentistry in India Today

Dentists in India

If you follow dental news or you happen to be interested in dentistry in India you may have come across articles on the subject of the number of dentists in India. The Dental Council of India has recently appealed to ministers to prevent the opening of new dental colleges in some states. The number of graduates is increasing year on year and more and more graduate dentists are struggling to find a job.

According to the World Health Organisation, the recommended ratio of dentists to patients should be 1:7500, but in some areas of India, including Maharashtra, the ration has dropped to 1:5000 and there are not enough jobs to go round for newly qualified dentists. In the state alone, there are 35 dental collages, producing 3000 new dentists every year.

A graduate dentist who qualified recently said that a decade ago there was a huge amount of prestige attached to being a dentist, but there are now so many dentists and clinics on every corner that there is little job security. He has decided to take a different career path and has since trained in hospital management. There have also been many stories of graduate dentists taking up part-time and short contract jobs to earn money because they cannot find a job in dentistry.

Standards of oral health in India

Standards of oral health are improving in India thanks to better access to dental services and increased awareness of oral health issues and oral hygiene; however, there is still a long way to go. Oral health problems are very common and in more remote areas, access to dental care remains an issue and awareness of oral health issues is still low.

According to a survey carried out by IMRB in 2010, almost half of people do not own a toothbrush and only 28 per cent of those surveyed said that they brushed their teeth twice a day. The survey also revealed that 34 per cent of people believed that brushing their teeth once a day was sufficient for good oral health and 56 per cent of people thought that it was fine to never change your toothbrush. 65 per cent of people also believed that their diet had no impact on their oral health.

Dental facilities in India

India, like many countries, is advancing all the time and the range of treatments on offer to patients is increasing every year. There are many new clinics, many of which boast state of the art facilities and offer the latest innovations in the dental world and dental tourism has become an increasingly valuable industry. You can even find the latest invisible braces.

Dental tourism involves people travelling overseas for treatment. India is a popular option for tourists from Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East and Europe because it has some excellent clinics and the prices are considerably lower than those quoted in other countries. The main cities for dental tourism include Mumbai and Delhi where people can look to pick up all manner of treatments, from fillings and implants to braces such as the Inman Aligner.

The advantages of dental implants

Dental implants are becoming popular because they look and feel just like natural teeth. No one will know you have artificial teeth as long as you keep the secret to yourself. You will be able to eat better and speak naturally, and your facial contour will also improve. The only thing that deters people from receiving them is the high cost. A single implant can cost as much as £1,200 in the UK. The good news is that the prices are coming down.

Dental implants have several advantages over traditional teeth restoration techniques like bridge and denture. Here are some of them.
  • Look and feel like natural teeth: Dental implants look and feel like so natural that you won't feel the difference most of the time. Not only will you be able to eat better (than with bridges and dentures), but you will also be able to speak without any difficulty.
  • Last much longer: Dental implants last at least ten years, which is much longer than bridges and dentures. They also do not need much repair and maintenance. In fact, you can treat them just like your treat your natural teeth most of the time.
  • Adjacent teeth are unaffected: Dental implants are attached directly in or on your jawbone and do not need the support of adjacent teeth (unlike bridges that do). This leaves your neighboring teeth untouched and safe from stress and deterioration. With traditional methods, adjacent teeth often the victims of their own generosity (by providing support).
  • Preserve the jawbones: Dental implants are attached in or on the jawbone and they protect and preserve the latter. Because they fill the space left vacant by the lost natural teeth, the jawbones retain their natural shape and strength.
  • Protects and improves facial contours: Dental implants fill the gap between the teeth permanently. This helps improve your facial contours, which can prevent premature wrinkling of the skin on your face in the long run.
Dental implants may be costlier than traditional restoration techniques, but the overall benefits can outweigh the cost, from whatever angle you look at it. Therefore, you should choose dental implants over traditional techniques if you are in of teeth restoration. If you re worried about the cost, then view dentimplants.co.uk to learn about dental implants that are affordable.

5 Reasons that Make Six Month Teeth Braces Popular

Why should you opt for six month teeth braces? Before you make any decision in this regard, it is important to find out the reasons that make these a better choice than conventional teeth braces. Here is a look at the reasons that make six month braces a popular option amongst all.

Reason 1: It is discreet: As the brackets of this type of braces are made from tooth-coloured material and the wires are very small, they are not conspicuous. This makes it difficult to discern their presence even when you open your mouth to talk, smile or eat.

The teeth braces remain unnoticeable during the treatment; this makes them a good choice if the worry about your appearance prevents you from wearing conventional metal braces. However, these are not invisible, like the clear braces are.

Reason 2: It is quick: The best advantage of this type of teeth braces is that they help straighten your teeth within a short time. You may only need to wear it for a few months, typically for 6-9 months.

The extent of your dental alignment problem determines the time necessary for the treatment. If it is minor, these braces can help rectify the problem within a short time. On the other hand, conventional braces need to be worn for at least a year or two.

Reason 3: It is low impact: The work principle of the six month braces is simple; they apply gentle but continuous pressure on the teeth to reposition them. The low impact of the braces is the reason that makes it suitable for the straightening of frontal teeth.

The dentist will determine whether it is the right treatment for you on your first consultation. If it is, the dentist will fit the braces on the next visit. You may have to go for short visits later to get the teeth braces adjusted.

Reason 4: It is affordable: The six month braces cost is one of the chief reasons behind its popularity. While it may be a little more costly than conventional braces, it is often less costly than other types such as lingual or clear braces.

The treatment does not involve any long-term procedures. This reduces the cost. Before you opt for this type of braces for teeth straightening, ask about the cost related details from your orthodontist.

Reason 5: It is available: Initially, the teeth straightening treatment with six month braces was only available at a few dental clinics. However, the success of this option has made it quite popular and many dental clinics offer it.

If your dentist does not provide treatment with six month teeth braces, ask him/her to refer you to a dental practice that offers this. You may also find a specialist orthodontist from online resources.

By now, you are sure to understand the reasons that make this type of braces more popular than the conventional ones. If teeth alignment problem makes your smile imperfect, you need to talk to your orthodontist immediately. If you do not know any orthodontist, ask your dentist for a referral.

How could you improve your dental practice consulting?

Most of the dentists practice to craft most of their time and for grand majority of the dentists, they come up to setting up their own clinic. But, there are several dentists who get their residencies in big hospitals and they just sign up for the major clinics. Running the show will not likely to be the part of the contract even if they are working as a senior staff or a partner. Thus, if they have been running their own business they are not able to give enough time towards their practice or they take early retirement to continue that for the selling purposes. They must have good intentions to continue with the contract and thus they make sure that there will not get off the ground while they put it on the sale. In this article, we are going to suggest some few tips on how they can either improve their business quality while they put it on sale

Improve your production quality: Before the actual retirement, the doctors sometimes start to slow down their business and thus in an exponential decline in profit and practice value as well. Thus, if you have improved historic value and growth rate then its fine otherwise you need to maintain it until the sale or practice closes.

Maintain Financial Records: Most of the practices involve the real value of the profit/loss statements that the dentists most of the time fails to recuperate the practice overhead and profit picture. He can ask his accountant for the related expenses to determine actual overhead and expenses benefiting him. If you own two practices, avoid a co-mingled tax return or financial statement.

Upgrade your office equipments: If the dentists upgrade their office equipments in a proper manner then they can easily sell if they feel retired from the practice. The purchasers always look for the modern equipments and thus if the dentist have an outdated equipment then he can replace it with the modern equipment. He must be aware of substantial replacement of the equipment just for the purpose of selling the practice. This rarely warrants the investment.

Call attention to fee-for-service: The vendors always look for the free for service component of practice income and thus dentist are supposed to carefully evaluate insurance plans they are participating in and those plans must be transferred dental practice consulting to another provider following a sale.

Cash flow analysis: To generate enough cash flow to make payments, the complete value of the practice cannot exceed the ability. These should not be required on the debt to obtain the practice to provide a reasonable profit to the purchasing dentist. The owner practice that include deductions for expenses are not necessarily related to the operation of the practice, but which were paid out on behalf of the selling dentist.

Expenditures in line: Maintain all the expenditures in line and also collect the fees on time at that time. You can get many resources to report treatment fees by percentile for a given zip code Fees if you will get your fees in line can then it can add practice value if instituted soon enough.

Just how good is your oral hygiene?

The quality of our oral hygiene is dependent on a number of factors working together, such as:
  • Diet
  • Oral cleaning
  • Professional dental scaling and polishing
  • Dental treatments
  • Teeth grinding habits
  • Lifestyle choices
  • Dental check-ups
Diet - The types and combinations of foods we consume daily impact our oral health. For example, foods high in sugar and acid may cause excess plaque build-up and potential tooth decay. Beverages, such as wine, coffee and tea may discolour or stain teeth, not leaving the mouth looking fresh.

Oral cleaning - Whether or not we follow dentist-recommended oral hygiene practices impacts oral hygiene and health. Brushing teeth daily with proper teeth brushing technique after meals, before sleep and on awaking removes debris and plaque build-up from the teeth. Flossing daily after meals removes food that maybe trapped between teeth. Brushing the tongue removes plaque and bacteria from the surface. Proper oral cleaning keeps the mouth hygienic and fresh.

Professional dental scaling and polishing - Three to six-monthly appointments with the dental hygienist ensures debris is removed from oral structures that otherwise is not removed by home oral hygiene practice. Tartar build up may be scaled off and the teeth polished to make it harder for plaque to adhere to the surface.

Dental treatments - Receiving needed dental care prevents decline of oral hygiene and health. Following dentist guidance on how to care for dental braces, dentures and appliances prevents poor oral health.

Teeth grinding habits - Teeth grinding wears down the teeth and may make them harder to clean and more vulnerable to bacteria build-up or infection. By wearing a mouth guard and keeping it clean, oral hygiene is maintained for better oral care.

Lifestyle choices - Choices such as smoking and excess alcohol consumption may not only contribute to poorer oral hygiene, but weaken oral health. Smokers may develop plaque deposits faster, have yellowing teeth and smoker's breath. More regular dental check-ups and appointments with the dental hygienist may be necessary. Selecting to have protected sex may reduce chances of sexually transmitted diseases and infections that may cause decline of oral hygiene and health.

Dental check-ups - Having six-monthly dental check-ups allows the dentist to assess oral hygiene and health and screen for oral diseases, for treatment if necessary. Where dental appliances, such as braces, retainers or dentures, are worn, adjustments may be made and in-clinic cleaning may be provided.
