Scary Moments as MOM

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

I haven't written about any scary mom moments because up until now we have only experienced one.  Here is my story of my "Scary Moment".  It wasn't anything life threatening, but scary just the same.  For me, I think that a lot of it had to do with the "first time mom"-ness of it and the fact that I was there.  Our son was born on June 17.  On June 30 we brought him in for a "routine surgical procedure".  Since his pediatrician doesn't perform this procedure, a specialist performed it.  The doctor asked us if we wished to be present during the procedure. Without hesitation we agreed to be there.  The worst thing for a 13 day old mom is to hear her 13 day old newborn baby cry as loud as he possibly could.  Up to that point I had only heard very tiny cries that were so easily soothed just by holding & nursing him.  I couldn't do that for him in this instance as he was strapped down on the examining table.  During the heart-wrenching 8 minutes that it took the doctor to complete his handy work, I suffered the most pain I had ever endured. This was honestly the most tortuous moment in my life.  He wailed, his body shivered as he lay naked, and his faced turned from red to purple!  I wanted to trade places with him.  The doctor tried to explain that he was not in as much pain as we perceived him to be. That he was just cold and probably hungry....I didn't buy it since our son NEVER cried like that in the 13 days that I had known him!  I quietly cried as I held his little hand and I felt like I couldn't breathe. The nurse mercifully handed me a Kleenex....after the ordeal the doctor prescribed Infant Tylenol for any discomfort then sent us on our way.  We got him dressed, nursed him, and he fell quickly to sleep.  We went straight to the first drug store that we passed. They were completely out of stock of Infant Tylenol. I was upset. We left in a huff and was on a mission to find the medicine for our child. We went to another nearby pharmacy.  Walgreens.  Again we couldn't find any stocked.  Thankfully during this time our son was sleeping soundly.  My stress level was increasing and I myself felt my pain meds wearing off.  Remember, I had JUST given birth days earlier.  My husband went to the pharmacy counter to inquire if they had any in stock behind the counters.  The pharmacy staff advised us that they had pulled Infants Tylenol from shelves as a 'precautionary measure,'  - it was a voluntary recall by the manufacturer. This was more information than the prior drug store had informed us of.   The on-duty pharmacist, who had probably sensed my stress level, came to speak with us.  I was not only super hormonal from just having given birth days before, on pain medication, and having the overwhelming feeling of worry that at any moment my son would wake up SCREAMING in pain....She assured me that all was not lost. Thankfully the Infant Acetaminophen in the Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products line was available and would work as the doctor prescribed.

Thankfully, our son did not need to use the product for the resulting procedure.  We did use it a few months later when he had a slight fever and discomfort from teething!  The Infant Acetaminophen in the Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products line worked famously! We now think twice about our spending when it comes to buying medicines. We can save money without worrying about sacrificing quality.  Now we check before buying over the counter products!  Most contain the same active ingredients as other national brands.  Not something we thought about much prior to becoming parents. Some things you just learn along the way.
